"By the time you woke up in the hospital, you couldn't remember who Jungkook was. He came into your life later than the rest of us did, so..."

It took me a while to process everything that my mom just told me. Slowly, I asked, "Why couldn't you guys tell me before?" Mom was getting teary-eyed and replied, "The doctors told us no to stress you too much, especially when it came to reminding you things.

"I remember Jungkook saying, 'Taehyung does basketball and hockey. He has to catch up on school and everything. I'll just be more of a burden. Please, don't tell him about me. The doctors said that he'll end up remembering things on his own, right? That's enough for me. I'll just wait for that day to come.' Then he left the hospital. Your dad and I haven't seen him since."

I stared at my mom, who was now biting her lip, trying to control tears. I immediately went and hugged her tightly.

She was crying now; tears were all over my shirt.

But I couldn't care about my mother more.

"Mom, I might not remember anything now, but I promise that when my memory finally and completely regains, I'll talk to Jungkook again."

That night, dinner was interesting. At first, it was really quiet. But then my dad broke the silence.

"Mom told me everything that happened. Do you have any memories? Flashbacks?"

I wanted to hide this from them. But I guess I have to tell them, I thought.

"Ever since I saw Jungkook at the lockers on the first day, I've had these little... clips and images. We were sitting on the couches near the fireplace and watching one of the Mission Impossible movies. But that wasn't what mattered. My main focus was on Jungkook's sleeping figure on my lap. He looked so cute, wearing a sweatshirt that was big for him.

"There was another clip I got of us running around on the beach. This one came while I was dreaming. He kept on telling me to enjoy the sand under our toes. The breeze. But all I was doing was staring at Jungkook's smiling face."

I felt myself slowly smiling at it.

Then my dad smiled and said, "You're starting to remember him again. Y'know, I think you still have Jungkook as a contact. You wanna try to text him or something after dinner?" I nodded. I knew I had to talk to him.
