Enna's POV
I needed some fresh air. The cabin felt too small, too suffocating after the intense discussions about our next steps. I wandered through the quiet streets of Brookhaven, letting my thoughts drift.
As I approached the park, I noticed two figures standing by the fountain. One of them was Kevin. My heart skipped a beat. I was about to call out to him when I noticed the other person - a girl I didn't recognize. She was standing close to him, too close. I hesitated, curiosity and unease gnawing at me.
I moved closer, hiding behind a tree to stay out of sight. Their voices drifted to me, faint but clear enough to hear.
"Kevin, you need to tell her," the girl said, her tone gentle but firm. "It's not fair to Enna."
Kevin sighed, looking down at the ground. "I know, Sarah. But how do I even begin? She's been through so much already."
My heart pounded in my chest. What were they talking about? I leaned in, straining to catch every word.
Sarah placed a hand on his arm. "You can't keep leading her on. It's not right. If you're not happy, you need to be honest with her."
Kevin ran a hand through his hair, frustration evident in his expression. "I didn't mean for this to happen. Enna and I... we've been through so much together. But I can't deny how I feel anymore."
Tears stung my eyes as I listened. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Kevin, the person I trusted the most, was hiding something from me. I felt a mix of anger, betrayal, and sadness.
Sarah looked at him with concern. "You need to decide, Kevin. Either be with her wholeheartedly or let her go. It's not fair to keep her in the dark."
Kevin nodded, his shoulders slumping. "You're right. I just... I don't know how to tell her."
Rage boiled inside me. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Kevin had been lying to me, betraying my trust. I stepped out from behind the tree, unable to contain my fury any longer.
"Tell me what, Kevin?" I demanded, my voice shaking with anger.
Kevin and Sarah both turned, their faces pale with shock. Kevin stammered, "Enna, I—"
I cut him off, my voice rising. "How long have you been hiding this from me? How long have you been lying to my face?"
Kevin looked down, unable to meet my gaze. "Enna, I'm sorry. I never wanted to hurt you."
"Hurt me?" I scoffed, my fists clenching. "You didn't want to hurt me, so you lied to me? You let me believe we were okay while you... you were with her?"
Sarah stepped forward, her expression apologetic. "Enna, please, don't blame Kevin entirely. It wasn't easy for him."
I glared at her, my anger intensifying. "Stay out of this, Sarah. This is between me and Kevin."
Kevin finally looked up, his eyes filled with regret. "Enna, I never wanted it to end like this. But the truth is, I'm not happy. I haven't been for a while."
His words were like a knife to my heart. I took a step back, shaking my head. "So, what? You thought you'd just string me along until you figured things out? Did you ever plan on telling me the truth, or were you just going to keep lying?"
Kevin opened his mouth to respond, but I didn't want to hear it. "You know what, Kevin? I don't care anymore. You're a coward. You couldn't even be honest with me."
With that, I turned on my heel and walked away, my heart pounding in my chest. I needed to get away from him, from all of it. I couldn't stay here, not after this.
Back at the cabin, I packed my things in a fury. The others tried to ask what was wrong, but I ignored them. I couldn't deal with their questions or their pity.
As I slung my bag over my shoulder and headed for the door, Violett stepped in front of me, concern etched on her face. "Enna, what happened? Where are you going?"
I looked at her, my anger still burning. "I'm leaving. I can't stay here anymore. Kevin... he's been lying to me. I need to get away, to clear my head."
Violett looked shocked but nodded. "If you need anything, just call, okay?"
I nodded, appreciating her understanding. Without another word, I left the cabin, my heart heavy but determined. I needed to find my own path, away from the lies and betrayal. I didn't know where I was going, but I knew I couldn't stay.
