Last year flashback chapter.

"Why don't you just go talk to him Ivy, I mean come on. It's been five years now and you still haven't grown the balls to even say hi." Collette pleads, staring at me expectantly.

Despite her judgment, Colette is my best friend.

I call her Collie because the first time we met was in first grade.
We were both on the blacktop staring at a rollie pollie that would flinch anytime we drew our small hands near it.

Wanting to rescue the miniature bug from the scorching heat, Collie and I grabbed a nearby stick to help launch the creature up and onto safe grounds (a tree).

Of course, I still had yet to learn the nice girl's name.

Her short blonde hair was always styled in two high pigtails tied off with a bright orange rubber band.

The rosiest red cheeks and the warmest smile were all I knew her as.
........

(1st grade flashback)

"I've always wanted pretty blue eyes like yours, but my mommy tells me my hazel eyes are just as beautiful. I don't think so. Mine always look so boring and dry," I sigh.
Coming to a slow stop on the swing set while kicking around the hard lumps of black rocks beneath my feet.

The Nice Girl beside me also slows down on the swing, matching paces with me as she stares out onto the playground in front of us.

She tilts her head and pushes her lips to the side. Almost like she's thinking long and hard.

"Sometimes when I'm playing in my room, I hear Mommy and Daddy talking about how they wish they never had a daughter. I think they wanted a baby boy. Not a girl like me," The Nice Girl whispers while she tells me her secret.

We are now both lazily kicking the rocks that lay beneath our feet.

"Do you have a name?" She questions.

"Ivy," I reply

She giggles as her smile grows impossibly brighter, "I like that name!" she exclaims while twisting her swing to face mine.

"My name is Collette, we are best friends now." She states goofily while reaching her hand out to meet mine in a firm handshake.

"Collette. I'm going to call you Collie just like a Rollie Pollie! Those are my favorite buggies." I squeal in excitement from discovering the new nickname for my best friend.

"Mkay. Best Friends it is." Collie grins.
"Best friends." I agree.

.......

(Flashback ends; resume present moment from a year ago)

"Collie seriously. Who in their right mind just goes up to a guy that they've been secretly in love with for years on end to suddenly spark up a conversation? He's gonna think I'm some crazy stalker. No way." I insist while rolling my eyes, as we search for an empty table in the cafeteria.

"I mean okay, I see how it could be a little weird for a girl you have no idea existed to just come up and say hi to you but, you have him in almost all your classes! There has to be something we can do to get you to talk to him. Plus, it's the last month before Junior Year. You have to try something." She argues while we settle on an empty table outside by the trees.

August Pierce has been the only guy I have ever had a crush on since the 7th grade.

Apart from his striking looks, not a single soul attending Pine View knows anything personal about August and he's always kept it like that.

I guess that's what makes him so intriguing.
