This work won't be "official" or "scientific" in nature. This is a firsthand, point of view account of what it can be like for the Hosts and Alters of the StoneHaven System to live and survive as a system, a parent, and a partner while trying to make sure we can retain our individuality and work on our respective traumas. While scientific aspects will be mentioned and in some cases, elaborated on, this is not a scientific article. Let's jump in shall we?

First off, I want to cover roles in a system. A role is like a job or a purpose. Every alter has a role. Every role is important to the livability of the system. However, not every role is at the forefront of the system. What that means is that you have almost a hierarchy when it comes to the roles. There are primary roles, secondary roles, and tertiary roles for specific "titles". There are also solitary roles for other titles. If I need to explain more in detail, drop a comment here and I will do my best.

A primary role is exactly as it sounds. An alter with a primary role will be the alter responsible for the majority of the responsibilities that are associated with that role. Let me give you an example. There is a title called a Gatekeeper. A Gatekeeper's job is basically to assess a memory or situation, determine whether or not the Host can handle the trauma that situation has incurred, and, if they can't, the Gatekeeper makes a new alter and assigns the trauma to that alter. (There's so much more to that but I will let a Gatekeeper explain. Drop a comment if you want to know more.) The alter in charge of that process and other Gatekeepers is called the Primary Gatekeeper.

Other roles include Primary Protector, Primary Caregiver, Primary Host, and Primary Persecutor. Solitary roles are Memory Holder, Trauma Holder, Sexual Alter, and Non-human or Fictive Alters. We will dive into those roles and what they do in next week's entry. For now, if there are any questions or comments, drop a comment here!

Have a splendid day and a wonderful night! Pleasant dreams and Gods speed!
