Sounds of footsteps, rustling leaves, and heavy breathing were the only things that you could hear as you ran deep into the woods. Eventually, your legs slowed their pace, and you decided to hide behind a tree. Your lungs and legs were aching from all that running, and your legs eventually gave out, forcing you to sit down on the ground, panting for air. "Shit...shit... this isn't happening... This can't be happening...!" you panicked, trying to keep your breathing steady. Your heart could still be heard pounding in your chest as your mind processed what was happening. Then, you felt a sharp pain throughout your body, especially in your back, which had been injured when you got smashed into the picture frame earlier. You groaned as you tried to move around, still struggling with your breathing.
"What am I going to do now...? I'm lost in the woods with no cellphone, weapon, or anything else... and those three men are probably on their way to find me..."
You held back your words, not wanting to let more thoughts flood your mind. Closing your eyes, you focused on planning how to navigate this messed up situation your in. As the daughter of a hunter, shouldn't you know how to protect yourself? All those skills and lessons he taught you seem to have slipped away since your mother's death as you tried to move forward in life. Now, you're filled with regret over every choice you've made.
You took a deep breath and decided to move, fearing they might find you if you stayed in one place for too long. Gathering all your strength, you grasped the nearby tree trunk and pulled yourself upright, groaning at your aching body. Despite the pain, you managed to stand up and gazed the forest around you.
Not knowing your location yet, you decided to move forward. You started speed-walking, while glancing behind you to check for any sign of the intruders. Relief washed over you when you saw nothing, prompting you to break into a run. But then...
BANG!
You screamed in agony as a surge of pain shot through your left arm. You dropped onto your knees, you examined your arm in disbelief. You saw blood started to stream down to your arm. "No... no... no...!" you whimpered, overwhelmed with pain and horror. Desperately, you clasped it with your other hand, trying to stop the blood from flowing out of your arm.
Then, you heard footsteps approaching and quickly turned around. Your heart raced as you spotted the intruder in the yellow hoodie and frowny face ski mask, carrying a gun. It dawned on you that he was the one who shot your arm. Groaning in pain, you gather all your strength to rise again, pushing through the unbelievable pain in your arm. With great effort, you managed to stand and began sprinting away, clutching your injured arm. Gasping for air, you looked around frantically, uncertain of where to flee next. Suddenly, the intruder fired a shot that struck a tree right beside you, causing you to startle and duck instinctively, searching for cover. You swiftly turned left and dashed behind another tree, quickly hiding yourself. You pressed a hand over your mouth to prevent any sound, and hoping that the intruder wouldn't discover your hiding place.
Then, you heard footsteps approaching, growing louder and closer. With your heart pounding, you closed your eyes, bracing for what might happen next. The footsteps got closer... and closer... until they abruptly stopped, leaving an eerie silence in the air. Slowly, you opened your eyes and scanned your surroundings in front of you, but there was no one in sight. "Damn... he must be behind this tree," you thought anxiously. Before you could think of your next move, the footsteps can be heard again, but this time it's fading away from your area. Holding your breath, you cautiously peeked behind you. Gradually, you spotted the hooded figure walking away, but suddenly he turned his head and locked eyes with you. You gasped and swiftly ducked back behind the tree, your heart racing even faster. How did he know? Was he intentionally luring you out? Regret flooded over you for ever glancing back, realizing you had fallen into his trap. But then, you snapped out of it. You needed to run-now! He already knew you were there. Without looking back, you sprinted away as fast as you could. Gunshots rang out in the distance, thankfully he missed. Although, the surroundings suddenly became foggy, reducing visibility on your surroundings, but you just kept on running. There was no time to hesitate with a man armed and hunting you. As you kept running, the man yelled something...
"Stop right there!"
You glanced back and saw the man still running towards you, attempting to cut you off. Ignoring his efforts, you focused on moving forward. Just as you turned your attention ahead, your foot unexpectedly stepped on nothing beneath it. You gasped as the gravity pulled your whole body down, screaming as you tumbled down the hillside. Each impact against the ground and rocks triggered you to groan of agony. The pain was relentless as you rolled uncontrollably, unable to stop until finally, after what felt like an eternity of torment, your body came to a halt at the bottom of the hill.
You coughed and whimpered, while the pain in your left arm started overwhelming you again. You felt the blood still dripping from your arm. Tears streamed down your face as you sobbed, wanting the all the pain to stop. Suddenly, dizziness and ringing filled your head, and your eyelids grew heavy. Your breathing slowed, becoming shallow and calm. With one last breath, you closed your eyes, surrendering to the darkness.
