Ersatz Elevator

Perhaps the begining of somthing new

L/p : Lemony Snicket- " The story you are about to read , assuming your eyes are open and tilted towards this paragraph , is one of the few stories that can teach you the difference between the word ' nervous ' and the word ' anxious ' ." he said lighting a match since it was exceptionally dark in the under ground tunnel that leading to many different homes of nobel people who were once part of a secret organisation , then going up the stairs that lead to a higher level of the tunnel and getting out of it through a manhole L/p : " the word ' nervous ' is simply how you might feel if you were served prune ice cream , because you would be worried it would taste awful . The word anxious on the other hand means troubled by the disturbing suspense , the way you might feel if you were served a live alligator . Because you wouldn't know if you would eat it or it would eat you . And that is precisely how the Baudelaires felt going to their new guardian . "

Poe -" now Baudelaires , I know you must be nervous I was a little nervous myself trying to find you a new guardian , but I think your going to enjoy your time here , it is a very fashionable block even though it's only a few minutes away from where you lived with your parents ! " said mr Poe while coughing even more then usually
Klaus - " we're more then nervous, we're anxious our friends have been kidnapped by count Olaf . "
Poe -" ah yes the Quagmire twins,Denis and Iphigenia"

Violet - " their names are Duncan and Isadora and they aren't twins , their brother Quigley Quagmire died in a fire " she said correcting him while the four of them got out of the car and went inside the building while he ignored her talking about the city wide man hunt to capture count Olaf and an anniversary present from his wife and ignoring what Violet said when they came in they were greeted by a concierge who didn't let mr Poe in due to the city wide manhunt , The Baudelaires had looked around the lobby while speaking to the concierge and had noticed that the elevator had a sign that said out , the stairs had candles due to it being very dark in the place since light was ' out ' and dark was ' in ' according to the concierge they could only use the stairs because it was the most ' In ' thing currently

L/p: Lemony- " the phrase in the dark can refer to not only ones shadowy surroundings , but also to the secrets which might be surrounding you . For example if you were sun bathing but you do not know about the deep and dangerous pit nearby then you are in the dark even though you are not actually in the dark , if you are on a hike knowing full well several ballerinas are following you then you are in the dark even though you are not in the dark , of course it was still possible to the both in the dark in the dark as that was the case of the three Baudelaire children . "

as the Baudelaires made their way to the top floor Klaus noticed that there were two sets of elevator doors Klaus- " that's odd there's two sets of elevator doors , see ? On every other floor there's just one . " as soon as the Baudelaires started observing the door a man jumped out from behind the penthouse doors

excitedly smiling at them Jerome- " you must be the Baudelaires ! Welcome , the doors always unlocked . My name is Jerome Squalor and I'm so happy you've come to stay with us "

klaus was a bit started and responded to him - " we're pleased to meet you mr. Squalor "
Jerome- " you must be parched from all your travels , and you can stop calling me mr.Squalor and start calling me Jerome ,Y/n please go get our new friends a nice cold martini ! " Jerome said leaving to go get Esme

Y/p- " Hello , I'm Y/n . How do you do ? " she said making them an aqueous martini , the eldest girl introduced herself and her siblings as Violet , Klaus and Sunny Baudelaire
Y/n - " I know this place may seem strange at first especially since people tend to appreciate appearance over functionality , but I hope you're going to grow to like it over time , this could even be the beginning of something new . " she said handing them each a
martini

Klaus- " isn't a martini usually an alcoholic beverage "

Y/n - " yes , usually it would be but alcoholic martinis are ' out ' and aqueous martinis are ' in "

Message from author- hi guys ! I'm really enjoying working on the book i know this was mostly just the start and there wasn't really any interaction between Klaus and Y/n although I found it strange if all of a sudden they were extremely close this is probably going to be more of a slow burn so let me know how you feel about long chapters , a slow burn and do you like the style this is written in , if you have any suggestions please comment them and I'll read them thank you for reading and I'll update as soon as possible !
