Layna stared at me with a confused expression, but my depressed state stopped her from asking any questions.
We drove in silence, while I silently cried into my backpack.
Wasten parked the car, and came around to where I sat and carried me into the house.
Layna opened the doors for Wasten to walk through, finally reaching my bedroom.
He placed me gently on the bed as Layna began stroking my hair.
Wasten left and returned with a big ice cream jug and three spoons.
Layna helped me sit up against my pillows for support, as Wasten handed me a spoon and the ice cream.
We ate in silence for several minutes before Layna spoke, "Who is he?"
I continued to eat my ice cream, trying to avoid the question, but she wouldn't have that.
"I know that you know his name because it's your duty as future alpha to know everyone's name. So tell me now!" She looked at me expectantly.
I looked up at both of them, then back at my ice cream.
"His name is Gabriel Ash. And his official rank is an omega."
They gasped at this revelation while I began eating ice cream again.
"Don't tell me you rejected him because of his status!" Layna said.
I growled at her and gave her my angriest expression, "Of course I didn't, and I didn't reject him!"
Then my memory of meeting him returned, "I just, sorta, avoided meeting him."
I could feel their eyes on me as I continued to eat my ice cream.
"Why are you avoiding him?" Wasten asked.
I looked at them like the answer was obvious, "Because there is a war coming and I can't protect him if the enemy find out about him. They'll target him to get to me. If I let that happen, I don't know what kind of irrational decisions I might make."
I looked up to see sympathy in their eyes.
"But by not saying anything to him, he might get the wrong idea and think you're rejecting him," Layna said.
"I know that, but I don't know how to tell him. And I'm afraid that if I talk to him, I may not find the strength to avoid him afterwards," I said as I looked at them.
"And I'll always feel uncomfortable without him by my side because I won't know whether or not he's safe," I cried into my hands.
I could feel the bed shift as Wasten began drawing circles on my back and Layna holding onto my hands.
"We know that you're in a difficult situation right now, but you have to let him know that you still want him, otherwise he might think he's not good enough and reject you, which would only make you weak and ultimately destroy you," she said while lifting my chin.
I nodded, "But I won't be able to see him until tomorrow, and even then he might not turn up to school," I said.
"Then we'll have to catch him in a setting that he has to attend," Layna said while stroking her invisible beard.
Then she squealed like a pig and clapped her hands together, "Like tonight before training, omega's are always expected to show up first. If we grab him before training, you two could get roughly around ten minutes to talk things out!"
I thought for a minute before nodding my head in agreement. Honestly, it was a pretty good plan, but I would never admit that.
She smiled and began eating ice cream with me, while Wasten joined us.
