Kageyama Tobio. How does a person describe Kageyama Tobio? They really can't. He was so odd. He was so standoffish yet so welcoming. He was mean at times but also extremely observant and kindhearted. Oh, Kageyama Tobio, what a kid you are. Shotaro enjoyed Kageyama's presence, and oftentimes, in middle school, he and Kageyama would sit and drink banana milk in silence.

Okay, well, more like Shotaro was silent, and Kageyama would ramble on and on about volleyball and serves and sets, and blah blah blah. Who cares for the specifics of it all?

When Oikawa was still around, and Kageyama was crazy good. It was really crazy good; it was almost intimidating. Almost. Shotaro was the only person who was capable of hitting Kageyama's 'king sets' or whatever those assholes labeled them as. It was laughable that Shotaro was able to score so many points but never once put on the court.

He was a last resort.

He was mute; how could he play volleyball?

That was the excuse, yet on all of the extracurricular teams, he played, and he played fucking well. Regardless of that, despite just finding solace in each other since their middle school team was so shitty, Kageyama would invite Shotaro over, and they'd listen to music while Kageyama rambled about how unfair it was for Shotaro to get benched. Or, Shotaro would invite Kageyama over, and the taller boy would beg the blonde to play the guitar for him; surprisingly enough, Shotaro would comply.

During those hangouts, Shotaro felt real peace. To him, Kageyama was like an ocean breeze, and Kageyama Tobio was his best friend until, in the middle of his second year, that all got ripped away. Asuka moved to Tokyo, and he ended up at Yaku Junior High.

Yaku was different. The people, the atmosphere, everything felt foreign and unfamiliar. He made a few friends, but they were older. But it sucked, and the worst part was that there was no Kageyama.

Shotaro missed those quiet afternoons, the shared banana milk, and the way Kageyama's eyes would light up when he talked about volleyball. It was during that time that Shotaro realized how much he had leaned on Kageyama's presence and how much he had relied on that friendship.

Now, here at Karasuno, the memories of those times were both a comfort and a reminder of what he had lost. But seeing Kageyama again, knowing that he was here, filled Shotaro with a strange mix of hope and apprehension.

Could they pick up where they left off?

Would Kageyama even want to?

He... he left him.

Apparently, yes, because before Shotaro could write something down, he was practically tackled in a hug by the one and only Kageyama Tobio.

"Eh?" The group of Karsuno Volleyball players coursed watching Kageyama, the weird, anti-physical touch, who doesn't really know how to high-five. Hug someone.
