Prologue

IF YOU WOULD'VE ASKED ME THREE YEARS AGO ON WHAT I WAS DOING, I couldn't tell you. I went to school to become a vet and help animals the best of my ability and it worked out for me. Until, I found out about Isla Nublar, I quickly applied for a position to oversee the dinosaurs health - I remembered when I was a child, I always loved dinosaurs, I didn't know why but I did. When I was finally accepted, I packed up my things quickly and left my family.

I love my family, but with my older brother getting married to someone I don't know, I decided to leave them behind. I told them I'll still keep them in touch while I traveled halfway around the world. When I finally got there, it was a huge amusement park - my smile couldn't get a bigger. I adjusted my bag on my shoulder and dragged my suitcase with me while I found the main office.

Maneuvering around people while I walked, I finally located the main office and walked in towards the front desk.

"Good afternoon, I'm looking for Claire Dearing," I spoke with a small smile on my face once more. "I'm here for the health position for the dinosaurs..."

"Oh, yes!" She said happily making me cringe on how high her voice was. "She's expecting you, if you go up the elevator and go to the fifth floor, she'll be in her office, two doors down on the left."

I quietly thank her while I made my way to the elevator and took a deep breath as I began to enter but then I slammed myself into a chest making me stumble back a little bit. I quickly look up in shock and frown.

"Oh my god, I'm so sorry, I didn't see you at all!" I frantically said while I drop my bag fiddling with my fingers. "God, I feel terrible."

The man lets out a small chuckle grabbing my hands as I felt sparks shooting through my veins while I looked up seeing a man around the same age as me with short brown hair, and green eyes while my brown eyes stared into his.

"Don't worry about it, it was a total accident." He replies making me frown still, he keeps his smile on his face. "You must be new, I'm Owen Grady, and you are?"

"Ashlynn Petrelli, a pleasure to meet you, Mr. Grady -" before I could finish, he put his hand up making me frown even more.

"Owen is totally fine, Ashlynn, Claire told me you'd be coming. She actually told me you'd be staying with me for a little bit until your bungalow was finished." I smile and follow him out to the main entrance once more. "Wanna ride?"

I look ahead and smile a little bit but then felt something shift in my bag, I blink pausing in my steps looking down seeing my bag shifting again. Owen looks down and we both look up with confused faces while I look back down, leaning down on my knees and slowly opening my bag and squeal when my dog pops out making me land on my ass.

"Apple?!" I squeak out in question as she barks once more. The dog was panting and tilt her head to the side making me slowly get up, grabbing my dog out of my bag. She was a little German Shepherd puppy, fourteen weeks old and I'm not gonna lie - how did she fit in my bag? "How the hell did you get in there sweetie?"

"Oh well, can't send her back by herself so, she can stay with us." I look at Owen with a shocked look as I slowly put Apple down. "Don't look at me like that, it's fine." I slowly nod as he grabs my bags while I follow him to the White Jeep Wrangler, Owen gently puts the bags in the back while he climbs in the driver side of the car while I got in the passenger after Apple jumps up into the car and he begins driving to the Sunrio bungalow where he stays.

"So, tell me about yourself, Ashlynn, what do you do?"

I smile a little bit. "Well, I did school for veterinary practice cause I care for animals so much. And when this position became open, I decided to take it. I hope it won't be hard."

"It won't be, you got me." I laugh a little bit as we pull up to the bungalow. "What about you?"

"I was in the navy for a little while and I was hired to train and research the behaviors of the Velociraptor, and suddenly, I'm the Alpha of four of them. Blue, Delta, Charlie and Echo."

"That's awesome," I say with a smile on my face while we got out and I bring my things to the bungalow. "I can't wait to start."

"Just a word of warning," I stop and look back seeing him looking at me. "Claire is somewhat of a control freak, you'll learn to deal with as it goes on - just give her some time, other than that, she's very ... kind."

I smile and laugh while nodding putting my things into the bungalow.

And that is how I became best friends with the Raptor Alpha. That was a year ago when all of that happened, now I'm overseeing so many animals here on the island and I couldn't be happier. Yes, I did keep my promise to my family and call them once a week. And he wasn't kidding about Claire, couldn't make the woman happy sometimes, but I'm going to be honest - she's a good person and she's one of my good friends.

I began to slowly open my eyes after my dream I just had, my tired eyes glanced around the bungalow slowly while I raised myself from the bed I was sleeping on. My messy bun hanging loosely against my head while I feel strands hitting my neck and forehead. I scratch my head gently while I push the sheets from my body and stand stretching my back feeling it pop.

I slowly yawn while I walked into the bathroom, I turn on the light looking in the mirror seeing the fly-aways, my brown hair leaning to the side from the bun. I giggle at myself after going to the toilet and relieving myself. After cleaning, I stand up and remove my clothes to take a quick shower. I remove the hair tie from my hair and got into the shower, cleaning myself and washing my hair from the sweats I had last night.

It was hot here on Isla Nublar, but at the same time - it was nice. There were days it was cool and others hot. After finishing my cool shower, I got out and dried my body and hair while I got my clothes from the drawer in my room. I changed into fresh underwear and bra and put on a black crop top with a blue jean short sleeve jacket with black jeans and matching combat boots. After brushing my hair with my fingers, I walked out of the bungalow and didn't see Owen anywhere; he must be with his raptors today.

I whistle loudly for Apple as I heard her running in the distance while I head to the car Claire got me, the same White Jeep Wrangler as Owen but he must've gotten a ride from Barry today cause his car was in the back. Shaking my head while I got into the driver side, I saw Apple jump into the passenger side while I smile widely.

"You ready to go to the Apatosaurus' land?" She barks loudly three times making me giggle while I started the car and we began our journey to another end of the island.
