the next morning, word had made its way around that over half of the basketball team had been suspended from doing any extracurriculars, specifically basketball. those who were not reprimanded included nathan, tim, ethan, jake and ruben.
dan scott, being the 'father' he is, kept his eyes on whitey as he followed the older man out the door, immediately resorting to calling out at the poor old man who had enough of the idiot standing before him, waving dan off as he walked off of school property.

later that day at the river court, all the guys were fooling around whilst playing basketball. "you guys remember tom dugan from grade school?" junk began while taking a breather, "oh, yeah, he used to live next door to you right?" lucas asked him after shooting what felt like his millionth three-pointer.
junk nodded at his friend, "yeah. some guy snapped him with a wet towel. he lost one of his testicles." junk finished while the rest of the guys chuckled in disbelief, muttering their own phrases with a shake of their heads. "just sayin' what i heard." the boy defended himself, passing the ball to lucas.
skills, currently stood next to lucas began, "anyways, man, what you reading these days, man?" lucas sighed, "steinbeck. 'the winter of our discontent.'" he turned, glancing towards skills. "let me hear some." he directed to lucas, as lucas disagreed. "come on, dawg. you know i be reading vicariously through you." he told lucas, enunciating the unusual vocabulary word.
"peyton sawyer." mouth exclaimed towards the guys as peyton drove by in her 1963 mercury comet convertible. "you seen her webcam? in her bedroom." junk specified. "i hear shes naked on it. like, all the time." lucas looked towards junk in mild disgust as the rest of the guys lightly laughed. "what? i hear things."
"you know, i saw her the other night. with madeline." lucas began taking a glance towards everyone before aiming for the hoop. "she almost ran us over, of course. madeline went off on her and me too, of course." lucas reiterated, putting on an exaggerated tone when talking about his sister. "yeah, she pretty fine, huh? peyton, i mean" skills asked, turning the conversation back onto peyton.
lucas sighed, still aiming for the hoop, "ah, shes alright." everyone gathered mocked his nonchalant tone. lucas laughed at their change in banter, "look, just shoot for teams alright?" he stated, finally thowing his shot towards the hoop.

as lucas walked into his mothers cafe, he spotted his sister working on her english lit homework, his mother messing around with the coffee grinder, and haley, his bestfriend in the back doing God knows what. "hey mom." he called out to karen, flipping the open sign to now show closed.
"smells good in here." lucas hummed as he took in the clean smell, now present in the room. "clearly its not you." madeline muttered, lucas taking the opportunity to ruffle her hair in order to annoy her, which worked out successfully. "stop." madeline groaned, dragging out the 'o' while smacking his stomach.
lucas mutters a curse word at his younger twin, earning a look from his mother. "right, sorry. but, did you change your hair?" he asked his mother, who seemed more put together compared to other rush days, "if by 'change,' you mean dragged a brush through it, then yeah." she smiled at her son. "well, it looks nice." he reciprocated a smile, "thank you," karen replied gratefully.
madeline gasped exaggeratedly, "what about my hair, you never compliment me." lucas narrowed his eyes at her, "youre my sister, thatll never happen." he replied while smiling at her sarcastically, ruffling her hair yet again. "bitch... sorry." she muttered in reply, adding a quick 'sorry' seeing as their mother returned to her previous spot in front of the pair.
lucas began helping his mother as haley walked out the kitchen with a magazine in her hands. "all of the magazine pages are sticky again, little pervs. oh, hey luke. you been readin' this?" she asked lucas as she fiddled around with the magazine. lucas rolled his eyes playfully, "i dont know, haley. is that the 'why do i hang out with these people' issue?" he narrowed his eyes.
"you on the cover of that, right? along with this rat?" lucas continued as he poked his sisters back with a spoon. "mom!" madeline called out standing from her chair to chase her brother around the cafe, "can you please?" she asked her mother as karen rolled her eyes at the two of them. "jesus, you two still act as if youre still five. settle down!"
both kids froze in their spots, in the same way they did eleven years ago at the age of five, with their heads down and arms behind their back, similar to when they broke the coffee table with their uncle keiths hammer, although they both still argue to this day about who actually broke it. "sorry." they both muttered, still avoiding their mothers gaze.
karen smiled at their childish ways, "sit down." she stated laughing at their antics. both kids walked to the table in relief, madeline kicking the back of lucas' knee, "mom!" he called out, almost falling over. "i only did what he did to me!" madeline defended. "sit down and eat, opposite sides of the table, please." karen told her kids.
she sighed, turning to haley with a smile, "haley, would you like to join us?" haley smiled gratefully at her, "hell yes." she replied while serving herself a bowl. as the four sat down at one or the tables in front of the large window, karen began. "so, honey, how was your day." haley sighed, "good, thanks." she replied turning to look at karen.
"i mean 'good' is relative, right? considering a third of the world is starving. which does not change the fact that i am clumsy as hell. did i tell you i fell down today? yeah. slipped off the curb, totally bit it, face down, butt in the air." haley rambled as the other three at the table chuckled at her retelling of her day. "too graphic? sorry, ill just be quiet." she added, kissing her teeth as she focused on her food.
karen moved her focus over to lucas, "so, i got something for you, lucas." she stated, before getting interrupted by haley. "actually, i found it. i mean, sorry. not that i was like, looking for something specifically, which implies some hideous sort of 'joey loves dawson' scenario and completely creep me out but, you know, we saw it, and.." she went on again, noticing the 'please, stop now' look from madeline. "...give him the book." she asked of karen.
as karen pulled out the book, handing it to lucas, then turning to her daughter handing her a sketchbook, the very one she had been asking for since last month. "thank you, mom." madeline told her gratefully. "wow. 'julius caesar.'" lucas stated, looking at the book. "'theres a tide in the affairs of men.' or something like that." she smiled slyly at her son. "nice." he replied, "thank you, guys. thank you very much."
haley shrugged, "whatever. if thats what youre into." she cleared her throat, gazing at the ceiling. as the other three gazed at eachother, in disbelief at her goofy demeanor.
