"If you're hearing this, we've begun our descent. January 30th, 2024. Emiko would be here helping me record, but she's busy piloting the vehicle. It's amazing how she does it, honestly. It's like she knows the controls like the back of her hand."

"Because I do know the controls like the back of my hand!" you can hear Emiko shout. It sounds like she's far away from the microphone. You can't help but smile. Your coworker next to you is scribbling down notes furiously. The thought of finding someone with more authority who would know what to do in this situation crosses your mind, but you shove it aside. You have to know more, and you don't want to miss a single word.

Emiko's voice speaks up again, much closer this time. "We're steadily approaching the energy source. No major damages to the vessel have been sustained. There, I said what I had to say. Will you please kindly leave me alone now?" She sounds a bit annoyed but playful, too.

"Okay, okay, fine. But in short, without all the fancy wording, we're doing okay!" Tara says. "We've gotten closer to the source, and with the improved accuracy we've determined it's a cephalopod-like creature. We'll update you with more knowledge the second we get it."

"Talk about the papers," Emiko absentmindedly says.

"Oh! Yes, the papers. Quite interesting, actually. We found an abandoned submarine a few hours ago and were able to retrieve an airtight container containing pieces of paper with weird sketches on it, dating back to 2010. I think it was from another expedition launched by the same company that, oddly enough, we weren't informed of. Years ago."

A shiver runs down your spine when she says this. You didn't know a mission was launched that many years ago either. Why would the company keep that a secret when they could've sent a robot down there to pick up the sketches?

Emiko continues, picking up where Tara left off. "Sketches that resemble a giant octopus-or a kraken, but those aren't real. I'm pretty sure they're the energy source we're supposed to be finding."

"Or, if you hold it like this, it looks like an elephant!" Tara says delightfully. Emiko bursts into soft laughter, and so do you. In such a tense situation, even the smallest bit of humor is welcomed with open arms.

"This is Tara Grey and Emiko Naga, signing off."
