Screams, fighting.
The sounds I woke to the night of my 20th birthday.
I'd been minimally celebrated, only Devin and Lexie making an effort. After an early bedtime I woke to the sounds of war.
Racing outside I found chaos.
Rogues streaming through the streets attacking anyone they could, terrorizing the pack. Homes were on fire, people were fleeing.I watched as the pack warriors fought, slowly taking control of the situation.
My parents had left, my father fighting the war and mother hiding in the safe house, not bothering to wake me. Not caring if I was safe.Devin fought alongside his father, his new mate helping pack members to safety. Nobody even glancing in my direction. Nobody caring to even check on me.
I was still in a sleepy haze when I heard a snarl behind me. Turning around o found three rogues creeping towards me, nothing but vicious hunger in their eyes. Hunger for chaos and pain.
I knew with my minimal training I couldn't handle all three so I turned and ran. I ran as fast and as far as my feet could take me, crossing pack boarders and losing two of the rogues to the battle.
The third finally caught up. I had to fight.
I shifted into my wolf, turning towards the rogue and taking in his form.Though I wasn't well trained I could tell this rogue was weak, and injured. His hind leg was damaged.
He jumped at me, snarling, and I dodged around his side. I clasped my jaws around his injured leg and snapped it, hearing him howl in pain. While he was out of focus I pounced on his side, pinning him under me and ripping out his throat.
I had done it, I won.
I left his dead body behind.
I collapsed once I found safety, tucked into a cave, panting breathlessly.
I fell back to a slumber.
When I woke to the morning light I took a cautious look around, but the forest was empty. I turned towards my pack, ready to return, but paused.
What was I returning to?
A pack where I was no longer needed, cast out and alone.
What was left for me there?
Nothing.I turned away. The trees swayed, leaves glistening with morning dee in the sunlight.
It's time I start my own adventure, take my life into my own hands.
With that thought I walked out into the forest to begin my life as a rogue.
