Calista spent the rest of the morning layering and decorating Mariah's birthday cake.

She was pulling the last of the cookies out of the oven at around 3:30 when her phone rang.

*SAM*

C: hey handsome, what's up?

S: hey pretty girl, nothing I just wanted to see what time you were going to Mariah's at? Did you wanna ride together?

C: that would be awesome! I was just gonna ride with Jess and Jake but that'd be better for my cake. Should we say 5:30?

S: perfect, I'll see you soon.

C: yes you will.

Calista couldn't help but smile.

She placed the cookies on the cooling rack and placed the pans in the sink, washing them quickly.

She then headed over to the other side of the kitchen where she put the last edible decoration on the cake.

She placed the cake in a large cake box she had bought from the store a few days prior, before heading upstairs to get ready.

Calista quickly took a shower, not washing her hair, she laid out a mid length yellow dress. Grabbing her flat iron she straightened her hair and braided a few pieces in the front of her hair before she headed back into the kitchen.

She quickly wrapped all of the cookies before getting a text from Sam saying he was there.

"JESS! Sam's here!" She shouted up the stairs.

Listening in she heard a distant "Okay, see you there" from Jess.

She grabbed the two boxes of cookies before heading to the door.

Opening it up revealed Sam. He was wearing a pair of dark black pants, and a soft blue button up.

"Okay, look at you!" She smiled at him brightly as the two walked toward the car.

"Thank you" he smiled trying to hide his awkwardness.

"You look hot!" She smiled.

"I mean, I have to look my best to be seen with you" he winked.

Calista could feel the heat in her cheeks as she placed the cake and cookies in the backseat of his vehicle.

"Alright, let's go. There's supposed to be a big storm tonight so hopefully the party isn't outside. I know the AirBnB is big but I don't know how big" Sam laughed.

"Wait Airbnb? I thought it was at Mariah and Colby's?" Calista stood confused.

"No? Did you even read the event information on Facebook?"  Sam laughed.

"Apparently not? Good thing you said something cause I probably would've showed up at their house" she laughed before walking over to her door, Sam opened it before she got a chance too.

The two got into the car and drove about 30mins to the Airbnb , and grabbed the treats before heading inside.

"YOU'RE HERE!" Mariah smiled as she went to the front door to greet her friends.

"Hi!" Calista smiled.

"I was expecting you with Jess and Jake but when they said you were with Sam I was confused" Mariah laughed.

"Ya he called and asked if I wanted a ride, I figured it was better than trying to fit us all and my cake, and my cookies in Jake's tiny ass car" she laughed.

"Ahh sure that's why" Mariah smirked.

They walked over to the kitchen and Calista unboxed the cake and placed it in the spot that Mariah had left for it.

"Oh my godddddd look at that cake!" Caitlyn said smiling as her and Brennen walked over to them.

"Thank you, thank you" Calista smiled brightly at her.

"I should've known any desserts at this party were done by you" Caitlyn laughed.

"It's one of the only things you can expect from me, good food and jokes" she laughed.

"Well I'm glad you said that, cause I am so hungry" Brennen laughed.

"Sam has the cookies" Calista said just as he walked over to them.

"That's true, I do have the cookies. However, I am not going to share, because I see sugar cookies and I love those" Sam smiled before placing the tray down and unwrapping them.

"Oh you'll have to fight Mariah for those" Calista laughed and patted him on the shoulder before going to mingle.

A few hours past, it was well past midnight now, they had all sung happy birthday and made sure Mariah had the best birthday ever.

Calista was standing at the window watching the rain fall when she heard someone come up behind her.

"Hey, you wanna get going soon?" Sam said wrapping an arm around her and pulling her close to him.

"Yeah, I think Jess and Jake disappeared an hour or so ago" Calista laughed.

"Oh of course they did" Sam laughed.

They said goodbyes to a few friends before heading over to where Mariah and Colby were standing in the kitchen

"Hey buddy, we're gonna head out" Calista said to Mariah before giving her a hug.

"Okay, well thank you for coming. And for my absolutely beautiful cake" Mariah said.

"Oh anytime!" She said giving Colby a hug as well.

Sam followed suit hugging the two of them, the couple headed over to the front door when Calista opened the door they noticed that the rain had started.

"Ah shit" she laughed before the two started running.

"Well that was cold" Sam laughed.

"Just a bit" Calista agreed.

The two started their drive down towards home as the storm raged on.

"Man it's getting bad out there" Calista said trying to look out but the storm was making everything extremely dark.

"Yeah this isn't good" Sam said.

"Should we pull over?" She said looking over at him.

"I don't think so, we'll just stay at this speed and it'll be okay" Sam said grabbing Calista's hand and squeezing it "don't worry, everything will be okay"

As if on cue the couple heard a loud honk before feeling the impact of a vehicle colliding with theirs.

The sudden slam was enough to cause the car to spin out of control into a line of trees along the road, the car hit head into the base of a tree.

Before everything went black.

I know I disappeared I apologize wholeheartedly, I truly appreciate anyone who's read/reading my book. This surgery has taken a lot out of me and I've been barely able to do anything besides sleep.

But here it is.
