In the eye of the storm

"Who are you!?" Yaman blurts to the phone.

His heart rate rises through the roof. Before he can even form a proper answer the phone caller hangs up.

Yaman's palms get sweaty and he tries to call the number back. The phone line says that the number does not exist.

What is going on? Was that a prank call? Did the caller have Can?

Several thoughts and scenarios run through Yaman's mind. The caller clearly said he should go alone: no police.

He doesn't have a lot of time to decide his course of action. Rüya is already glancing at him with a questioning look.

He remembers what had happened last time when he went to meet Serhan to get his mother back five years ago. Elif had found out about it and Serhan ended up leaving with his mother.

This time he could not make the same mistake. What if that caller really has Can? He would hate himself forever if he messes this up.

"Who was it?" Rüya asks, standing up from the bench.

Yaman makes a split second decision.

"Oh, it was a prank call. I have received a few since Can disappeared." Yaman says. He tries to sound convincing, but he is shaken up.

"What did they say? Are you sure it was a prank?" Rüya asks.

Yaman tries to sound normal, but feels like he is failing miserably. "Yeah, he distorted his voice and everything. I'm just annoyed that some people make a joke out of this..."

He does feel a pang on his conscience, but he needs more time to think about what to do.

Rüya seems to study his face for a moment. "I haven't received such calls thankfully."

It's time to change the subject. "I think we should head home now. You still need to rest."

"Okay. I feel better after hearing they have done at least something. I'm afraid of the mafia being involved in this though..." Rüya sighs.

"It's a beginning. We'll figure everything out." Yaman says and helps Rüya down the hallway.

At home Yaman convinces Rüya to go rest in their room until lunch. He covers her with the blanket and doesn't stay to hear her complaints.

Yaman needs a moment to just think. What is going on?

He goes to the office and sits at the desk.

Yaman takes out his phone and checks the number that had called him earlier.

He tries to look for the number in all search engines and applications he can think of.

The result is the same: there's no digital footprint or identification linked to the number. Maybe it's a burner phone and thus looking for the number is a waste of time.

Yaman places his phone on the desk, leans his elbows on his knees and buried his face into his hands.

The meeting time is scheduled for tomorrow. If he tells Elif about this, everything is in danger of getting ruined.

If he gets even 0,5% chance of finding Can with this shady caller, he is willing to risk it.

He knows that his parents, Rüya and Elif would all lose it if they knew what he is doing.

He would just go to the meetup spot, and try to figure out as much as possible. Maybe he would take a little knife to protect himself just in case.

The meeting is in public, there would be plenty of other people and witnesses. It would be on the safer side of scenarios where you meet shady people that possibly kidnapped your son.
