The day's chaos had finally settled. Roman, drained from a marathon of royal Zoom meetings, lay sprawled on his bed, his phone clutched listlessly in his hand. His face, still sporting a touch of light makeup for the last video conference call, felt itchy and uncomfortable. He longed to scrub it all off and sink into a well-deserved sleep.
Suddenly, the door creaked open, and two familiar figures slipped into the room. Patton, a goofy grin plastered on his face, and Virgil, his usual frown softened in the dim light, approached the bed.
Before Roman could even voice his surprise, Patton launched himself onto the bed, landing with a soft plop right next to him. Virgil, with a hesitant smile, followed suit, settling himself at the foot of the bed.
"Hey, sleepyhead," Patton chimed in, his voice full of playful energy. "Long day of royal duties, huh?"
Roman chuckled, a tired smile gracing his lips. "You could say that. Never thought discussing trade agreements with a foreign ambassador could be so exhausting."
He glanced at Virgil, who simply nodded in response, a silent show of understanding.
"So," Patton continued, his voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper, "we were thinking... how about a movie night? Just us three?"
A surge of warmth washed over Roman. The prospect of spending an evening relaxing with his friends, away from the pressures of royalty, was incredibly appealing. "Movie night," he echoed, a genuine smile spreading across his face. "Sounds perfect."
They spent the next hour rummaging through Roman's extensive movie collection, finally settling on a classic comedy. With the movie playing on his laptop screen, they huddled together on the bed, a comfortable silence settling between them. Every now and then, a burst of laughter would erupt from Patton, punctuated by Virgil's dry witticisms.
As the movie neared its end, Patton's eyelids started to droop. Roman, catching his friend's fatigue, reached out and gently brushed some stray hair off his forehead. A jolt of electricity shot through him at the simple touch, a spark of something unspoken crackling in the air.
Patton stirred, his eyes fluttering open. A blush crept up his neck as he met Roman's gaze, a hesitant smile playing on his lips. Roman quickly looked away, the unexpected intensity of the moment leaving him flustered.
Suddenly, an idea struck him. He grabbed his phone, the camera aimed at the three of them snuggled on the bed. Roman's face, with its slightly smudged makeup, was sandwiched between Patton's sleepy smile and Virgil's relaxed expression.
"Just finished the most chaotic movie night ever," he declared, typing a caption. "Told them I had no more shows for tonight and they messed up my makeup smh."
He added a laughing emoji and clicked post, a mischievous glint in his eyes. As the notification chimed, a wave of comfortable silence settled back over them. Roman wasn't sure what the future held, but for now, nestled amidst his closest friends, the weight of his royal duties felt lighter, and the promise of something more hung heavy in the warm embrace of their unexpected reunion.
