Sunlight streamed through the expansive windows of the royal cafeteria, bathing the room in a warm glow. Patton sat nestled amongst his friends, a golden stack of fluffy waffles drizzled with maple syrup disappearing before his eyes. A contented sigh escaped his lips as he savored the sweet treat, the events of the previous night replaying in his mind like a cherished memory.
Logan, ever the early riser, was already halfway through a bowl of oatmeal, a book propped open next to him. Virgil, a dark circle under his eyes hinting at a restless night, was picking at his breakfast with a distracted expression. Remus, his usual chaotic energy subdued, was lost in a conversation with Janus, their animated whispers creating a small island of intrigue amidst the chatter of the other diners.
Just as Patton was about to inquire about Virgil's well-being, a familiar figure appeared at the entrance of the cafeteria. Roman, his hair a mess and a hint of sleepiness clinging to his eyes, scanned the room before heading towards their table.
"Good morning, sunshine!" he greeted with a flourish, a playful smile lighting up his face.
Patton couldn't help but grin back. Roman's slightly disheveled appearance only added to his charm. "Hey, Roman," he replied, gesturing to the empty chair beside him. "Sleep well?"
Roman chuckled sheepishly as he slid into the seat. "Not particularly," he admitted. "Turns out sewing giant star pillows takes longer than I thought."
A flicker of curiosity sparked in Patton's eyes. "Giant... star pillow?" he repeated, his voice laced with surprise.
Roman winked. "Patience, sunshine. You'll see."
He busied himself with his plate, dodging Patton's inquiring glances. The air crackled with unspoken anticipation, making the wait for whatever Roman was hiding all the more agonizing.
Meanwhile, Remus, ever the instigator, leaned across the table with a mischievous grin. "So, Roman," he drawled, his voice dripping with mock seriousness, "anything interesting happen on your late-night... sewing expedition?"
Janus nudged him with a playful elbow, but the question hung in the air, causing Virgil to raise an eyebrow in Roman's direction. Under the combined pressure of their gazes, Roman finally caved.
"Alright, alright," he sighed, reaching under the table and pulling out a large paper bag. "Here you go, sunshine."
Patton watched with wide eyes as Roman carefully retrieved a large, lumpy object from the bag. As it unfolded, a gasp escaped his lips. It was a giant, fluffy star-shaped pillow, the softest yellow fabric he'd ever felt. A gentle lavender scent wafted up, instantly calming his nerves.
His hands trembled as he ran them over the plush surface. It wasn't just any pillow; it was pure luxury. But before he could fully express his awe, he noticed a small tag sewn onto the corner.
With bated breath, he turned it over and read the message embroidered in bold blue thread: "Hey Buddy, I made this as a thank you for helping me on Heartstopper since your other one is falling apart ILY Patton! - Roman"
Patton felt a warmth bloom in his chest, spreading through him like sunshine. The care and thought Roman had put into the gift, not to mention the bold declaration of affection, left him speechless. Tears welled up in his eyes, blurring his vision.
"Roman... this is..." he stammered, his voice thick with emotion. "This is incredible! You didn't have to do this!"
Roman simply smiled, a genuine, heartfelt smile that reached his eyes. "Of course I did," he said, his voice surprisingly soft. "You were amazing in Heartstopper, and you deserve something special."
