When I woke up it was still dark outside. I woke my sister up so we could quickly leave. We took our bags and got out, luckily for us the wall to the yard was short so we easily jumped over it and ran to the taxi rank.
Letho: Sis
Me: Yeah?
Her: Will we be okay? (she had tears in her eyes)
Me: I'll do everything I can to make sure of that, okay baby? (she nodded)
In a way, I was trying to convince myself that we'd be okay. This is gonna be a long journey. We were gonna take a taxi to the train station and a train to Gauteng. To be honest I would go anywhere as long as it's far from eNquthu, but let's be honest no place is far enough.
As we were in line for the taxi, men kept staring at me, making me very uncomfortable. I'm a thick girl with a big butt and I'm light in complexion with a very cute dimple on my left cheek so I'm like the perfect target for perves, Ugh! We got in the taxi and as soon as it drove off I released a breath I didn't even know I was holding.
My sister fell asleep on my lap and after a couple of minutes we arrived at the station and got in the train. When it left I just sat there thinking about my life and all the hate I went through with my sister.
Letho: Why are you crying?
I didn't even notice I was crying, (I wiped my tears)
Me: Nothing, just thinking about what we went through.
Her: Okay, we'll be alright.
Me: Yeah, we'll be okay.
We fell asleep and I was woken up by this lovely lady saying the train has arrived. We got out and went to the place we were going to rent. So like vele we had already looked for places to rent using Sihle's phone, we planned ahead you know. The one we found was in Jo'burg, a couple of miles from where we were. We got there in almost an hour by walking. I'm so glad asihlangananga namaPhara.
Me: Sawubona*greetings*.
Owner: Hello ngane yam *my child*are you the new tenant?
Me: Yes ma'am.
Her: Okay, right this way.
It was a five room house with 2 bedrooms, a bathroom, kitchen and lounge. It was just next to her house in the same yard.
Me: Thank you so much ma.
Her: Ningakhathazeki, nisale kahle. * Don't worry, stay well.*
Me: Okay ma.
She left then we started unpacking our things. The house was furnished so we just needed kitchen supplies and food then we'd be fine. We took a nap and woke up late. We went to the shop we saw down the road and bought Kotas along with juice. When we got home, we ate, cleaned up and my sister slept after that.
I couldn't sleep as thoughts came over my mind, "where would I get a job","I don't know anyone here", the only good thing was that I at least finished school. I was supposed to be doing my Fourth year to become a CA( Chartered Accountant), that was my dream but step-mom never allowed it. Eventually I fell asleep.
I was woken up by the smell of eggs and Letho about to give me breakfast in bed. I smiled.
Me: Morning baby (she smiled back)
Letho: Morning sis.
I put the tray on the bed, went to brdh my teeth and came back to find her done with the bed.
Me: Aww baby, thank you.
Her: It's not a big deal. Plus you need your energy for today, mam Thandi borrowed me pots to make breakfast.
Me: That's nice of her. I hope I get a job.
Her: I know you will.
Me: Thanks nana.
Her: I love you sis.
Me: I love you too baby girl. Let me wash these.
I washed our dishes then went to bath. The bathroom comes with a bathtub and a shower so I too a very long shower for the first time in my life and whilst showering, tears came out involuteerily as I thought about my mom and how much I missed having her in my life.
Anyway, I got out of the shower, lotioned my body and wore a white long sleeve T-shirt with blue jeans and my black tommies the combed my short afro. I looked neat atleast. I got out and saw my sister seated on the couch.
Me: Bye baby, I'm leaving.
Her: Bye sis.
Me: Lock the door. (she nodded)
We hugged and I left. As I got out of the gate I was met by the land lady, mam Thandi.
Me: Hawu! Sawubona ma. *Oh! Greetings ma. *
Her:oh, hello sisi. Unjani? * How are you*
Me: Ngyaphila MA, wena? *I'm good MA, you? *
Her: Hhayi Ngyaphila ngane yam. Uyaphi ekuseni kangaka? *I'm good my child. Where are you going so early? *
Me: I'm going to print out my CVs and look for a job.
Her: Hawu. I know a place that is looking for a receptionist.
Me: Yoh, are you serious, where?
Her: It's this company called Manzini Inc, you can stop by there. Just tell the taxi driver you're going to Manzini Inc, they will take you there.
Me: Ngiyabonga MA. Thank you very much* Thank you. *
Her: You're welcome my child.
I walked to the internet Cafe I saw around the corner and I made and printed out my CV then I got into a taxi and it took me to Manzini Inc. I got into this huge amazing building and I was welcomed by this beautiful, heavily pregnant receptionist with a warm smile.
Me: Good afternoon.
Receptionist: Hi, welcome to Manzini inc. I'm Nandi, how can I help you? (she said smiling)
I smiled back
Me:I came here as I heard you were looking for a receptionist so I brought my CV.
Nandi: Okay, you can leave it here along with your contact details so I can call you to tell you what we've decided.
Me: I...I don't have a phone (I looked down)
She must've seen the sad look on my face as she gave me a small smile.
Nandi: Oh, it's okay just come on Friday and I'll tell you if you got the interview.
Me: Thank you so much.
Her: you're welcome love.
I got out with a smile on my face and a hopeful heart. Let's see what joburg has in store for me.
