Long lost mother

A problem

Around 9am Scarlett came in my room, only to see me still asleep. She walks over to me and shakes me softly.

,, Yn.. It's time to get up. " she said softly

I opened my eyes slightly but closed them hard when I felt a sharp pain run down my back. Scarlett eyed me suspiciously.

,, Yn?" she asked cautiously. ,, Are you ok?"

,, Mhm.. Yeah my back just hurts.. I think it's from the new mattress.. I'm not use to it.. " I said softly

She nodded. ,, Yeah I understand that."

Its more than a back pain. And that's because when I was 10 I fell down a flight of stairs on my back. I just don't want Scarlett to worry about me. I know I should tell her.. And I will.. Someday.

I got up and changed into something cute but comfy.

After that I went downstairs for breakfast. Colin was in the kitchen making pancakes for me and rose. Suddenly I felt a hand tug at my shirt softly, it's rose!

,, Can you play with me until breakfast is ready? " she asked.

,, Sure, what do you want to play?" I smile at her.

,, hm.. Can we play restaurant?" she leads me to the playroom.

,, sure! I'll be the customer! " I said while sitting down on the floor.

,, ok! Hi, welcome to my restaurant! What would you like to eat?" she grabs a notebook and pen.

,, hm... A water please!"

,, Got it! " she goes to her play kitchen and comes back with a fake water, handing it to me.

,, Now, what would you like to eat?" she smiles.

,, Girls breakfast time! " Colin shouts so we can hear him.

,, ok dad!" Rose shouts back.

I still haven't called them mom or dad. It just feels... Weird. Rose grabs my hand and walks with me to the table where Scarlett is sitting down. Shes on her computer while munching on an apple. I sit next to Scarlett and rose. Colin looks at the pancakes he made and hesitates.

,, Uhm.. Maybe we should order something..! " He says suspiciously.

Scarlett raises and eyebrow. ,, And why is that? Colin... Did you burn them again?"

,, uhm.. " he rubs the back of his neck.

I look at Rose and we both start dying of laughter. The pancakes are so burnt, how did he even burn it that bad? I stopped laughing when the pain shot up my back again. Rose and Scarlett are looking at me now, great.

,, Yn? " rose says. ,, Are you ok?"

,, Mhm yeah I'm fine. Don't worry Rosie!" I answer back.

,, Yn that's the second time you've reacted that way. If it happens again I'm taking you to the doctor, something is clearly wrong and you won't tell us." Scarlett adds in.

,, Fine.. I'll tell you.. " I sigh. ,, A sharp pain keeps shooting up my back.. And it's not because of the mattress.."

Scarletts eyes widen. ,, Then what is it?"

,, when I was 10.. I fell down a flight of stairs... Right on my back.."

,, Yn! " Scarletts eyes are wide, her face full of shock. ,, You could have permanent damage to your back.. This isn't good."

I smile slightly. ,, I'm fine! It only acts up sometimes! Don't worry about it! "

She gave me a stern glare. ,, No, I'm taking you to the doctors tomorrow. You could have broken a bone and now it's healed weird!"

My smile fades, she has a point. It could be something big, something unfixable.
