A Pick Me Up

"I know I'm special. It's just that no one sees it." I say as I swipe across my phone screen, after hours of scrolling through Hinge, I've all but given up on ever finding love. Especially since most of the guys say I'm "just like the last girl I talked to." "No, I'm not, Clide." I say as I swipe left.

Admitting defeat, I dial a number and instantly perk up when I hear my best friend Juniper call out "sup, girly?"

"The plan we made of just living together in our old age keeps looking better and better." I sigh out.

"Aw, another luck-less day of guys?"

"Yeah." I flop back down on my bed.

"Well, hey, listen, I've got to take granny Ida to the dentist, so I've got to go."

"Can I come?" I ask, only half joking. "I'm bored."

"Trust me, I'd rather talk with you, but Granny can't drive herself. Oh, also, could you pick up my new tarot cards for me? They are at Mystic Momentum on 126th."

"Yeah, don't worry about it."

"Okay, well talk to you laters!" a desperate " Granny no! Those aren't cheerios!" Was heard as the phone call ended.

"Laters." I sigh, running my hands through my hair, it was tangled. "Hm, where did my brush go?" I start sifting through my drawers when my phone pings.

*Date with Alec - 2:30 pm at Popping Pearls*

Even though that date was canceled by Alec himself, I could still go get myself a little sweet treat. It's been a rough day after all.

I grab my keys and head out of my loft to my Chevy Sonic. Parking is a joke, $50 for a parking spot every month, but at least it's covered parking.

Popping Pearls is about 10 minutes away, roughly enough time to listen to 3 Taylor Swift songs. Pulling up I have 2 things on my mind; 1st, free parking, my favorite.  2nd, the drinks, I can't wait for a watermelon fruit tea with strawberry popping boba.

I slip my car into a compact spot with ease and shift into park. Tossing up my messy hair that I somehow still forgot to brush, a few strands of rebellious pieces fight back, and I'm forced to cave in. I grab my keys and wallet and head inside. My happy, confident strut was cut short. "Alec?"

A confused looking skinny, sandy blonde-haired boy looks up. "Morgan?" Alec says. "Yup." I say moving away from the door to let more favorable people in the door behind me. The girl sitting with him, holding his hand, looks at me and back at Alec, she didn't say a word. Her black hair moved with every glance between Alec and me.

"I thought you had to go to your brother's soccer tryouts?" I stated. "Some soccer field this place is." I say sarcastically, as I glance around the boba shop in mock wonder. "Morgan I-" Alec starts, but I interrupt. "Enjoy your date. Don't bother contacting me. I won't respond."  As I walked away leaving a still shook Alec sitting at the table and headed to the counter.

"One watermelon fruit tea with strawberry popping boba, please." The girl enters in my order. "And make it the biggest size you have, please." She nods, seeming to understand my emergency. "$7.26" She states. I swipe my card as she left to prepare my one true solace. "What a shitty day this is turning out to be." I mutter under my breath. Shoving my little wallet back into my bag, I walk to the pickup side of the counter, sneaking a glance at Alec, feeling every bit pathetic in doing so.

I watch him as he seemingly forgets my entire existence and focuses only on the raven haired beauty sitting in front of him.  She laughs at something he says, but I'm willing to bet it's not even funny. He probably asked her to laugh. I roll my eyes and pull out my phone to text Juniper while waiting for my emotional support drink to appear in all its shining glory.
