Valeria's POV

Short chapter ahead

I NEED A JOB.

I'm currently searching for a job. I would go back to being Gio's assistant, but I know that it will turn into something that's not appropriate.

I will not hurt Kaitlyn.

"Keep looking, bitch," Kaitlyn called out, looking for the perfect gift for her Mom.

"I'm trying, but I feel like every job I look at won't be right for me," I whined like a child.

"Well, you can always go work with Avery," Kaitlyn scrunched her nose.

I looked at her as if she was crazy. I squinted my eyes and started typing. Most of the jobs that were popping up were food places. Then, I saw one particular job.

Math Teacher.

Educated Mep.

I mean, it's better than the other jobs. It's an underpaid job but it's something. I've always wanted to be a teacher, so now it's my turn to shine.

I didn't become a teacher fresh out of college, which is something I still regret.

I filled out an online application and sent it over to a middle school nearby. I closed my computer and rolled on the bed.

"Leave so I can sleep," I curled into my sleeping position.

"Why do I have to leave?" Kaitlyn asked.

"Because you are too freaking loud, and I'm tired," I muttered, closing my eyes.

"Fair enough," Kaitlyn shrugged.

Mid July

"We would love to have you work with us. As you may know, there's a shortage in staff right now, so we're accepting almost everyone with a degree and a clean record. Do you have any questions for us? The principal asked.

"No ma'am. Thank you so much for giving me this job. You have no idea how badly I needed this," I stood up, shaking her hand.

I left and sent Gio a text, asking if she could watch Alex tomorrow. Of course Gio -being the nosy bitch she is- asked about a million questions before finally agreeing.

I headed to Chick-Fil-A and got myself an eight count nugget meal. I also got three kids' meals for Alex and his friends. When I pulled to the window I saw a familiar face.

She looked to be in her 70s or 80s. She had short grey hair with outstanding green-blue eyes. She was very small in size, but I have never seen a tall old person.

She looks a lot like Gio-

"Do I know you?" The older lady asked with an Italian-like accent.

"I don't think so, but you do look familiar. What's your name, if you don't mind me asking?" I stared at the small lady.

"Gertrude," She gave me a wrinkled smile.

A/N: sorry that's the first name that came to mind 😭

I definitely don't know you-

"Alrighty, you have a nice night!" Another employee gave me my food and drinks.

When I got home, Alex and his friends were asleep. I woke them up to eat, but they couldn't stay awake in their chairs, so I sent them to bed.

Free breakfast.

"How do you feel about going to Daddy's house tomorrow?" I dipped my nugget into the sauce.

"It's boring there! Evan isn't there anymore, and now I have no one to play with while I'm there. Can't I stay with you?" Alex pleaded with barbecue sauce around his bottom lip.

"Unfortunately, you can't stay with me. I have to run some errands, but I promise as soon as I'm done, I'll come get you. Deal?" I held my hand out for him to shake.

He shook my hand and we continued to talk and eat our chicken nuggets.

Kaitlyn walked into the kitchen shortly after, rubbing her eyes. She then looked at the chicken nuggets Alex and I split and took one from each of us.

"Hey! Mommy, she took my chicken nuggie," my son said with a pout.

"It's okay love. Have one of mine.," I said, offering him my plate of nuggets.

"No! I want mine! Give it back now, dumbass!" Alex screamed.

What the fuck-

Where did he learn that-
