0. No nightmares, No dreams

— “You can't have nightmares if you never dream.”

All your life, you've felt like something was wrong with you. Like you were just a small waterdrop in a vast, deep ocean. Like you weren't complete.

It was something strange. Like you didn't belong in the world you were put in.

You were good at everything, but never great.

Everyone around you always had something they were extremely good at. A talent.

You wished you had that, too.

Perhaps that's exactly why you turned to composing. Composing your feelings, in hopes that you would find people who felt the same way. In hopes you really weren't just ... Strange.

There is nothing wrong with being strange, of course. We all have our differences that make us, well, us.

But this world makes It seem as if everyone should be the exact same, all the time.

Like having different likes and dislikes is the end of the world.

That's something that bothered you, too.

But maybe, just maybe, you'd find people who felt the same way about you.

And so, you started.

At first, you were unsure if your music would reach the right people but, over time, those doubts started fading as people started commenting they knew how you felt.

It was a bittersweet feeling. At first, you liked the fact that people related to you, but then, you also pitied them. That feeling was a horrible one you wished no one would have to go through.

There were also people who admired your work. People who appreciated your ability to convey feelings so well. People who swore they could feel the songs.

The fact that people not only understood you, but also admired you was something that made you keep going. Keep creating. Keep listening.

At some point, music became a way of escapism for you.

Somewhere only you and those like you could visit. Somewhere you felt safe and understood.

But how far can one go in the ocean before they drown?
