The morning of the Queen's audience dawned bright and clear, the sunlight filtering through the elegant drapes of the Bridgerton household. Elodie, dressed in the sapphire gown from Madame Collette, stood before the mirror, adjusting her gloves nervously. Her heart pounded with anticipation, the weight of the day's significance pressing heavily on her shoulders.

"Elodie, stop fidgeting," Violet instructed sharply, entering the room with a calm demeanor. "You look fine. Just try not to embarrass us."

Elodie rolled her eyes. "Yes, Mama. I'll do my best to meet your exacting standards."

Violet smiled, ignoring the sarcasm. "Remember, grace and poise. The Queen expects nothing less."

As they arrived at Buckingham House, the grandeur of the royal residence was overwhelming. Elodie followed her mother through the vast hallways, their footsteps echoing softly against the polished marble floors. They were led to a waiting room, where other esteemed guests had gathered, each dressed in their finest attire.

Elodie's eyes scanned the room, her nerves momentarily forgotten as she marveled at the opulence around her. It wasn't long before the grand doors opened, and a royal attendant announced their turn to meet the Queen. Violet and Elodie exchanged a final, encouraging glance before stepping forward.

The throne room was magnificent, adorned with golden accents and lavish tapestries. At the center, on an elevated platform, sat Queen Charlotte, her regal presence commanding the room. Beside her stood Prince Theodore, dressed in his formal attire, his mask from the masquerade now replaced with a look of composed elegance.

Elodie's breath caught in her throat as their eyes met. The recognition was instantaneous, but the thought of last night filled there mind. They both maintained their formal decorum as they approached the throne.

"Your Majesty," Violet curtsied deeply, followed by Elodie.

Queen Charlotte nodded graciously. "Lady Bridgerton, Miss Bridgerton, welcome. It is always a pleasure to see members of your esteemed family."

"Your Majesty," Violet replied, her tone respectful and warm. "Thank you for granting us this audience."

The Queen's eyes settled on Elodie, her gaze appraising. "Miss Bridgerton, I have heard much about you. It seems you have quite the admirers."

Elodie felt a smile creep up her cheeks but maintained her composure. "Thank you, Your Majesty. It is an honor to be here."

Queen Charlotte gestured for Elodie to step closer, signaling a more private conversation. Violet gave a reassuring nod and took a step back, allowing her daughter to approach the throne.
