'The Last One'

The rolling hills of the St. Claire palace were bathed in the golden hues of a late summer afternoon, the soft breeze carrying the sweet scent of blooming wildflowers. It had been quite a while since Elodie and Theodore had taken their vows, and the kingdom had since flourished under their rule. The people adored their new King and Queen, who had brought a fresh perspective and compassionate leadership to the realm.

Elodie stood on the balcony of their grand palace, overlooking the vibrant gardens where their children played. Their eldest, a spirited boy named Alexander, chased his younger sister, Isabella, who giggled as she tried to outrun him. Near them, their twins, Charlotte and Henry, were engrossed in building an elaborate castle out of sticks and stones.

The sound of footsteps approaching made Elodie turn, and she smiled as Theodore joined her, wrapping an arm around her waist. He pressed a kiss to her temple, his eyes sparkling with love and contentment.

"They're growing up so fast," Elodie mused, her gaze still on their children.

"Indeed they are," Theodore agreed. "It seems like only yesterday that we were in London, navigating courtship and politics."

Elodie laughed softly. "And now look at us. Who would have thought we'd come this far?"

Theodore chuckled, his grip on her tightening slightly. "Certainly not us. But here we are, and I wouldn't change a thing."

Their moment of tranquility was interrupted by the arrival of a messenger, who bowed deeply before addressing the King and Queen. "Your Majesties, I bring news from London. It seems that Lord Gregory Bridgerton has... well, disrupted a wedding."

Elodie's eyes widened in surprise, and then she burst into laughter. "Oh, Gregory! What has he done now?"

The messenger hesitated. "He, uh, apparently stopped the ceremony right before the vows were exchanged. It caused quite a stir."

Elodie shook her head, still smiling. "That sounds exactly like Gregory. Always one for the dramatic."

Theodore grinned, but his expression turned serious as he looked at Elodie. "You know, you should probably write to him. Give him some sisterly advice."

Elodie nodded, already slipping into a more motherly demeanor. "Yes, I suppose I should. He means well, but he does need to learn a bit more discretion."

She stepped back inside the palace, moving towards her writing desk. Theodore watched her go, admiring the strength and grace with which she balanced her roles as Queen, wife, mother, and sister.

Sitting down, Elodie began to pen a letter to Gregory, her thoughts filled with both affection and exasperation. She knew he was growing up, just as she had, but sometimes, the lessons of youth were best learned with a bit of guidance.

As she finished the letter and sealed it with the royal crest, she heard the sound of small feet running towards her. Isabella, with her wild curls and bright eyes, ran into the room, followed closely by Alexander.

"Mother, come play with us!" Isabella pleaded, her tiny hands reaching up to Elodie.

Elodie smiled, gathering her daughter into her arms. "Of course, my darling. Let's go join your father and siblings."

Together, they returned to the garden, where Theodore was helping Charlotte and Henry perfect their castle. The laughter of their children filled the air, a sweet melody that spoke of happiness and love.

Elodie looked at Theodore, who met her gaze with a knowing smile. They had faced many challenges, but together, they had built a life full of joy and purpose. And as their children played and grew, they knew that the future held even more promise.

For now, they were content to bask in the warmth of the present, grateful for the journey that had brought them to this moment and eager to see where their shared path would lead next.
