After saying, "Careful," in a rough voice, he turned away from her, grabbed his crutches, and put them back under his powerful arms.
Amara turned to look back at him in horror, whimpering at his proximity.

"You?!" Amara said, startled as she turned to face the devilishly attractive man who had kidnapped her from her home and attempted to shoot her. The memory sent a shudder down her spine.

"His Majesty wants to meet you," he said, attempting to shift his damaged leg and body weight.

"This soon?" Amara scowled.
The monarch was undoubtedly insane; after ordering her to sit in the garden, he now demanded that she return to him.
"Remember that you are a prisoner and cannot question his orders."
"You've been here for two hours." Alex remarked

"It's been two hours, really?" Amara gasped in shock, realizing she had been so engrossed in her thoughts for so long that she had forgotten the time.

"Will you be coming, or will I have to carry you once more?"Alex scowled at his reply.

Amara examined the large, muscular man's rippling muscles from head to toe. She pointed to his immobilized limb and remarked, quite literally, "You can't carry me with a broken leg."

"Woman, would you like me to test your theory?" Alex growled,
"No, no, no!" Let’s go,” Amara replied. She knew better than to test the big knight, even with a broken leg, and she was certain he could still harm her worse than what he did the other day.

The knight approached her, hoping she would follow, and Amara had déjà vu.
"Why were all the people in this castle so strong and self-assured? That must be the price of being a royal." Amara pondered

Curious, she couldn't help but stare at the crutch-wielding knight and ask, "How did you manage to break your leg?"

"Listen to me and listen to me well, woman; you are nothing but trouble. Try to stay as far away from me as you can because I am not good news for you," the knight said, turning around and limping to her with his crutches.

"Do you understand me?" He asked

She nodded, but she couldn't help but think of how the king had scowled at her when she hadn't given him a verbal response, so she quickly said, "Yes, sir," after her nod.

To her astonishment, the knight did not look delighted with her submission; instead, he looked disgusted. He turned around, limping, and left her shoulders to go down another hallway.

Though astonished, Amara quickly gathered her courage and followed after the knight.
She kept walking after him, engaged in her thoughts, her nerves upset, until she collided with a hard wall, causing the hard wall to collapse and Amara to tumble over it.

Amara groaned in anguish, as did the wall. Amara got to her feet and staggered, but a solid hand held her back.
Amara gasped at the contact and looked up, knowing all too well who was holding those hands.
The king gave her a playful glance as he looked down.
"Woman, watch where you walk!" King remarked as he saw her.

Amara felt sorry for the large knight, who was having difficulty standing, as she heard him shuffle and turn to face her feet. She escaped the king's clutches and moved in Alex's direction.

Alex frowned when she offered her hand for assistance. "Woman, you're one-fourth of my weight." Alex complained.
His crude remarks caused Amara to scowl. "Fine, help yourself," she thought to herself.

Once more, the familiar hand rested on her waist.
He gently moved her away, and she turned to face the king, who kept his eyes on the tiled floor where Alex was struggling.
Once Amara was away from their grasp, the king abruptly wrapped an arm around Alex's shoulders and lifted him up with a single motion.
The way he treated Alex suddenly made all the kindness he had toward Amara disappear. The tension between the two strong men was clearly visible to the blind.

Amex bowed his head respectfully and said, "Thank you, your Majesty," before beginning to leave his office.

"You're not dismissed, Alex!" The king addressed Alex as he observed Amara, noting her red nose and swollen eyes from sobbing earlier in the garden.
In an attempt to get the king's attention, Alex cleared his throat while standing further away from them both.

The king just gave him a quick glance before again turning to face Amara, his brows twisted in perplexity.
The king asked, "I assume you have something to say to the lady, Alex?"

"Yes, indeed." "I apologize for attempting to shoot you yesterday," Alex murmured, his eyes filled with guilt, but he maintained his stoic expression, showing that he was not at all troubled by what had transpired the day before.

"It's fine," Amara murmured, looking away, but the two enormous guys had been staring at her as if she were a strange animal they had never seen before.

"Leave," the king ordered, and Amara didn't have to be told twice; she beelined for the door, only to be halted again by his harsh voice. "Not you!" the king shouted, as Alex shoved past her.
As he left the king's office per his orders, the evil guy had a winning smirk on his face, and Amara couldn't help but stare back at him.
The king cleared his voice to get her attention once they were alone.
"Did anyone hurt you?" The king asked in a hurried manner.
Amara truthfully replied, "No one hurt me," but the three people she'd spoken to—the king, the limping knight, and the scowling maid Maria—had thoroughly irritated her ever since they'd brought her here.

She gave a frustrated huff as the king motioned for her to sit in front of him; she had no reason for disobeying him. As she sat parallel to him, he kept his gaze fixed on her.

Amara uncomfortably moved in her seat. Why is this harsh man staring at her? Could it be that her appearance bothers him? Amara didn't like how she looked either.
Every time she was among her in-laws and her incredibly loving husband, she was reminded of her curvy figure.
Amara sighed. If her husband didn't find her attractive, the king wouldn't either, so why was he looking at her?
Amara abruptly turned back to face him, having had enough of the awkward silence.
The king gasped, and so did she. The monarch glanced away from her, then turned his head back.
"Amara, why were you crying?" the king inquired. At this point, she turned her face away because of the way the king spoke her name. There was something so innocent about it that she was unable to draw attention to it.
"I don't know." The lie came out of her mouth with ease.

The monarch merely hummed in reply.
"I wanted to ask you some questions about your family, Amara," he uttered, attempting to make the paled woman appear smaller than she actually was. He was already rippling with muscles, standing a foot taller than her. The king didn't even have to try to look intimidating.
His eyes, and his burly stature was more than enough to send Amara to the opposite side of the world.

Although she had met him and his domineering demeanor yesterday, she couldn't help but feel exhausted. "I had a mother, your majesty," Amara murmured, looking down, exhausted from his constant questions.

"Had?" The monarch arched an eyebrow, intrigued.
"Yeah, she passed away roughly three months ago," Amara replied, utterly distraught and disoriented by the loss of her sole known family member.

"It must be awful for you your mother died 3 months ago and your husband has been missing for the last 2 months yet you looked so relaxed, Amara?" The king questioned extremely suspicious of the woman seated across from him.
"Your Majesty, I have nothing left to lose. Looking back at her fingers, Amara remarked, "I am broken and I have nothing. She was my only family."

The king inquired, "How did your mother die, Amara?" with the same icy tone, but this time with concern in his eyes.

"She..her car fell off a cliff; she was drunk driving." The thought of her deceased mother made Amara sob; losing the only person who had ever truly loved her was too much to bear. Her mother adored Amara, even though she was often intoxicated and couldn't communicate it.

As she bowed her head in sorrow and agony, she felt a hard hand stroke her head.
