Friday evening arrived in a flurry of last-minute preparations.

Lucien and I had spent the day visiting our respective clubs, ensuring everything was running smoothly before we left for Whales.

The Grand Conclave Ball was not just a social event—it was an arena of power, alliances, and rivalries. We had to be prepared.

As we finished our final checks, Lucien and I met at the club's entrance, ready to head to the airport.

His eyes met mine, a silent promise passing between us.

We were in this together, and we had to act like we were madly in love, newlyweds caught in the throes of passion.

The drive to the airport was filled with quiet conversation, the weight of our mission hanging heavy in the air.

As we boarded the private jet, the luxury around us was a stark contrast to the gritty reality of our lives.

Once in the air, he settled into the seat beside me, his hand finding mine.

He leaned in close, his breath warm against my ear. "You know, pretending to be madly in love with you isn't going to be hard," he murmured, a playful smile on his lips.

I laughed softly, squeezing his hand. "Just remember, we have an audience. Keep it believable."

He chuckled, his eyes sparkling with mischief. "Oh, I intend to."

As the plane ascended, the city lights below us dwindled, replaced by the vast darkness of the night sky.

We sat in comfortable silence for a while, the hum of the jet engines a soothing backdrop.

"So, how are you feeling about this?" he asked, his tone more serious now.

"A bit nervous, to be honest," I admitted. "You see, this is the first time we are going there, as a couple. And I don't know, how people will act since now my authorities are changed."

He nodded, his thumb gently stroking the back of my hand. "No matter what, you'll always be the Serafina Moretti, whom the the world fears. And being beside me, won't change the fact that Lady Moretti rules the room she walks in. She is not intimated by anyone, no matter what."

"Stop flirting," I scoffed. "But this is different. It's not just about me. It's about our families, our reputations."

His expression sharpened. "That's not how exactly I'd flirt with you. But yeah, things change and we'll go through the change together."

I smiled, feeling a surge of confidence. "Together."

As the flight progressed, we talked about our plans, our strategies, and how we would navigate the intricate dance of politics at the ball.
