THE TIES THAT BIND
"a brother is a friend
given to you by nature."

-

Stiles Stilinski and Stefanie Stilinski were a terrible twosome, some might say. They did everything together, eat, sleep, play, it was a never ending cycle.

A cycle Stefanie thought would end this summer, but apparently not. Her brother was currently swinging on her office chair, making noises as if he were on a rollercoaster. Stefanie could feel a migraine come on.

"Hear me out-"

"No."

"You don't even know what I was going to say."

"I don't have to, I can see the way your eyes are moving," Stefanie added, Stiles huffed and leaned back in the chair. "Listen, I'm all for going out and exploring, but I have other things to be doing."

"Like what? Drawing hearts over Scott's photos?"

Stefanie glanced at him, annoyance written all over her face. She rolled her eyes and sighed, trying to tune him out as she returned to her book about wraiths-souls trapped between life and death, doomed to wander in the shadows.
But the words on the page blurred as Stiles' rollercoaster sound effects got louder.

"Okay, what do you want?" Stefanie's patience was wearing thin. "What can I give you?"

"Come with me to find the dead body."

"Dad told us no more of that, it's creepy and serial killer activity." Stefanie shivered. "Do you want to be a serial killer Stiles, do you?"

"I wouldn't be a very pretty serial killer anyway." Stiles shrugged, looking down at his jeans and pulling away some lint.

Stefanie stared at him, deadpan. "That's what you're worried about? Your fashion sense?"

"Well, I wouldn't be caught dead looking like this," He shot back with a smirk, clearly enjoying himself.

Stefanie hid back a smile, not showing she was amused. Stiles sighed, lifting himself off the chair and throwing himself on the bed next to her. She made a groan of frustration because he landed right on top of her.

"Get off me you loaf." Stefanie shoved him off her and he laughed.

"It's just, you haven't done anything with me since-"

"Don't, please don't." Stefanie pleaded with him not to continue, she wasn't ready to talk about it. She didn't want to talk about it. Stiles nodded, he understood. "I do miss hanging out with you and Scott. I just need more time."

"I know," Stiles replied, his voice gentle but provided her support, giving her a safe space without pushing that wall she has built around herself. "You haven't heard from Jackson then?"

"Harley told me he's dating Lydia now."

"And, you're okay with that?"

"Why wouldn't I be? He's moved on."

"But so soon, after, you know."

"Stiles, I'm begging you, just let it go, please."

Stiles raised his hands up, showing he surrenders and he won't bring it up anymore. He was worried about her, though, he could see the pain in her eyes. She didn't smile much anymore.

"I'm going to meet up with Scott," He kissed her cheek and got off the bed. "You want me to bring back a souvenir? An arm? A leg?"

"You're not funny." Stefanie hid her amusement.

"I'm hilarious." Stiles grinned, he kissed her cheek and rolled off the bed. He tripped on his way to her bedroom door, which made her smile. "Stef?"

"Yeah?"

"I love you."

"I love you too, Stiles."

Stefanie was sprawled on the couch, her legs hanging over the armrest as she flipped lazily through a magazine. She heard the front door creak open and groaned, not even looking up. "Stiles, if you're here to bug me again, I'm not in the mood."

"It's not Stiles," came Harley's voice from the doorway. Stefanie tilted her head to see her best friend standing there, grinning with a mischievous look in her dark brown eyes. "But nice to know I'm your second choice."

"Did Stiles ask you to come spy on me?" Stefanie groaned, tossing her magazine onto the coffee table. "As much as I enjoy the presence of my dear non biological sister, I really could do with some peace and quiet right now."

Harley strolled in with a cardboard box in her hand, "Would it change your mind if I told you that I brought some of this?" She opened the box just enough to show the pepperoni and cheese pizza inside.

Stefanie's resolve weakened as the delicious aroma filled her nostrils. She sat up a little, trying to act unimpressed but failing. "That's cheating. You know pizza is my weakness."

Harley grinned wider, plopping down next to her on the couch and setting the box between them. "Pizza and me, obviously."

Stefanie gave her a playful eye roll but grabbed a slice anyway. "Okay, fine, maybe some girl time wouldn't hurt."

Harley nodded sagely, taking a slice for herself. "Exactly. And trust me, after everything lately, we deserve it."

Stefanie sighed, sinking back into the cushions. "Yeah... I guess you're right."

They ate in comfortable silence for a few moments before Harley broke it with a smirk. "So... speaking of girl time, have you seen what Lydia's been up to?"

Stefanie groaned again, but this time with a smile. "Please, not that kind of girl time."

Harley laughed. "Fine, fine. But I'm not above gossiping about her new boyfriend if you want to hear."

Stefanie shook her head, a small grin tugging at her lips. "Pass me another slice first."
