I held the gun in my hands, trying to get used to the grip. It was much lighter than what I had been used to.
When we had trained, the guns shot tranqualizers and I was mostly practicing with bigger, longer weapons. I also wasn't shooting at anything that moved. It was all cans and bottles.
Blake nodded to me, letting me know to be ready. He grabbed two small blades from the backpack and gripped them tight.
"What happened to packing supplies? I thought you brought more than enough weapons!"
I glanced into the bag and realized it was mostly full of bullets.
"Funds are running a little short until I catch the Vampire I was assigned to eliminate," he confessed before throwing the door open and making a run for it.
Finn made a dash for Blake, and I grabbed out to him but was too slow. The dog was too fast for me.
The two Vampires that had been on top of us got down and bolted after them. I scrambled towards his open door as fast as I could while they were distracted.
I whipped the pistol towards them, but I felt too far away to try and fire. Based on what I learned during training I could end up hitting Finn or Blake. We really should have practiced on something alive with the tranqualizers. I'm sure that would have made me feel more confident.
Using all the energy I could muster, I threw myself out of the Jeep and ran as fast as possible to try and catch up to them all.
What I was doing was completely reckless, and if it hadn't been for the adrenaline coursing through me right now, I knew that I'd be useless.
It didn't take long for the Vampires to reach Blake and tackle him. He was fighting them off extremely well. But two on one wasn't going to last forever, and they would overpower him if I didn't get there soon. Especially knowing he didn't have proper weaponry.
Luckily for Blake, Finn jumped on top of one of the Vampires, allowing him a little bit of leeway.
I kept running up to them, quickly gaining more ground. While they were stopped and wrestling it out I had alost gotten close enough to fire.
He had told me to save the bullets as much as I could, so that was exactly what I was doing.
Finn bit one of the Vampires' arms and the creature howled like it was the worst pain it had ever been in. It threw the dog and I heard Finn yelp in fear. My heart ached for him.
Blake roared and tossed the Feral away from him, trying to run over to his dog.
The second Vampire realized this, and made his way over to Finn before Blake could. The speed it had was ridiculous.
I raised my gun and prayed, closing my eyes.
BAM.
The vampire dropped and I opened my eyes to see Blake holding Finn in his arms.
The other vampire made a wicked groaning noise in frustration, and sprinted towards them at full speed.
He wasn't close enough yet for me to shoot, and he was too fast. I now deeply regretted not getting more acquainted with shooting before.
Blake saw what was about to happen and set Finn down before charging towards the beast. They collided mid-air, a few feet away from Finn.
I had to admit, his drive to protect his dog was admirable.
Finn stayed still, whimpering. I couldn't tell if he was just scared or hurt.
My feet automatically took me towards him and I wasn't sure if Finn would let me so close in his current state. After all, I smelled like the very thing that just hurled him through the air.
