"Ahvi, I wish I was there! I'm still stuck in Philly, but damn, I want to see Matío's sexy ass," Renai gushes through the phone, her playful tone earning a chuckle from me. I roll my eyes as I place my coffee cup in the dishwasher.

"I can guarantee Matío doesn't want to see you," I reply with a smirk. "He barely tolerates seeing me."

She laughs on the other end, the sound light and teasing. "Girl, that's because you've grown up. He probably avoids you because he thinks you're attractive or something."

I scoff, leaning against the counter. "Yeah, right."

"I'm serious. Have you seen yourself? You don't look anything like you did in high school."

"It's only been two years, Renai. Not that long." I shake my head, but nearly drop my phone when I glance up and see him—Matío—standing silently in the kitchen.

Why does he always show up when I least expect it?

"Who are you talking to?" he asks casually, walking past me. His shoulder brushes against my back as he opens the fridge.

"None of your business," I reply quickly, trying to keep my composure. I glance down at my phone, where Renai's face fills the screen, her grin mischievous.

She wiggles her eyebrows. "Is that Matío?"

"Who's asking?" he interjects, his voice carrying a sly edge.

I groan, rubbing my temple. "Renai, don't—"

But of course, she doesn't listen. She leans closer to her camera with a wide grin. "Hi, Matío!"

He leans down slightly, peering at the screen. His expression remains neutral, though his voice carries a trace of amusement. "Renai."

"At least sound interested," I scold, crossing my arms. "Don't be rude to her."

"I'm plenty interested," he counters with a faint smirk.

I narrow my eyes. "Could've fooled me."

Renai giggles through the phone. "Anyway, babe, I gotta go. My parents won't stop blowing up my phone. Bye, Matío!"

I wave goodbye as the call disconnects, setting my phone on the counter. When I glance back at him, he's already blending a smoothie, the loud hum of the blender cutting through the silence.
