"Yukio, I can't," I say as I unlock our hands.
"Oh. Um.. Its okay," he says scratching the back of his head.
"I'm sorry," I say, "I think I should focus on school work first."
"I see... I understand...I'm gonna get down now," he says, with a force smile.
I did have feelings for him no doubt, but I believe my school work is more important at this point. I feel like it was too early for a relationship. It's the middle of the semester anyways, and I need to try to get to the top.
*A Month later
Yukio and I seemed more distant now, since he asked me to be his girlfriend. I would understand though. I felt bad, but I had to. He hasn't talked to me for a month and I was getting worried. During lunch I hung out with Shiemi and Rin. Every time i try to hang out with them when Yukio was there, he always walks away. I could tell he was hurt, and honestly I felt really bad. Guilt filled my stomach every time he looked at me and looked away.
"Hey Rin," I said, giving him the soda I got for him and I. We were sitting at the park waiting for Shiemi.
"Did Shiemi get back to you?" I ask him.
"No. I'm getting worried," He says.
"Aw that's so cute. You should ask her out," I suggest, while he blushes.
"Shut up," he says, smirking.
"Hey guys. Sorry for making you wait," Shiemi says, out of breath.
"Ya its fine, lets go anyway," I suggest, getting up.
"Maybe we should invite Yukio," Shiemi says. Every time I heard that name, my heart instantly drops.
"Hey, Are you okay?" Rin asks worried.
I guess my expression showed how I was feeling. I answered back saying," Ya, I'm fine."
"Okay. Well we should invite him," Rin says, taking out his phone.
I haven't actually talked to him since the trip.
"He said ya, he'll meet us there," Rin announces, putting his phone down.
We all decided to go get yogurt at this new restaurant in Tokyo. I can't believe he actually accepted, considering our distance. Plus it was a three hour drive, so we would all get back to the Academy late.
Once we got to the yogurt shop, the line was really long. It took up half of the block the store was on. Once we got into the line, Rin tried contacting Yukio.
"He said he was in the store already. We should cut in front of him," Rin suggested.
"Can you go look for him?" Rin asks, looking at me.
"Wait.. Me? You know your brother and I aren't in good grounds right?" I remind Rin.
"Ya everyone knows what happened. This is a great time to build up your friendship. I know you still want to talk to him anyways," Rin says.
"Wow that's the most smartest thing I have ever heard come out of your mouth," I say.
"Just go," He says, slightly nudging me.
As I walked into the yogurt shop and scanned the people that were in the line, my heart was beating intensely. I tried spotting him among the crowed. Right when I was about to give up, we met gazes. I looked down embarrassed, but I reminded myself to man up. There is nothing wrong with creating a better friendship right? Will all my courage, I walked right next to him.
