You made sure to stay beside Furina the whole night, determined to prevent another incident like the last time. Her presence next to you brought a soothing sense of responsibility and care. As dawn began to break, the soft glow of the morning light filtered through the curtains, casting a gentle hue over the room. The tranquility of the early hour was almost palpable, broken only by the soft, rhythmic sound of Furina's breathing. You were going to cook food in a few minutes but you chose to enjoy the timeless panorama before you laying unconscious on the confines of her bed.
Furina lay peacefully beside you, her delicate features softened by the embrace of sleep. Her lashes rested gently against her cheeks, and a faint smile curved her lips, giving her an almost angelic appearance. The sight of her like this filled you with a deep sense of warmth and protectiveness.
Unable to resist the urge, you extended a finger and gently poked her cheek. Her skin was soft, and the light touch made her stir ever so slightly. She scrunched her nose in response, a small, endearing movement that brought a smile to your face. You watched as she adjusted her position, her head moving closer to you as if seeking the comfort of your presence even in her sleep.
"Morning, sleepyhead."
She murmured back to you, "Morning, Y/N..." Without any telltale signs, she moved closer to you, her arms encircling around your waist as you sat on the bed whilst she continued to lay down with her eyes closed.
The peaceful rise and fall of her chest, the slight parting of her lips, and the way her hair splayed out on the pillow all contributed to a scene so serene and picturesque that you couldn't help but feel captivated. By the gods, you just wanted to cradle her in your lap and whisper all sorts of sweet nothings into her ear; that that certain night never occurred and you were living in a perpetual dream surrounded by your feelings and desires.
You brush a strand of hair away from her forehead and you just wish you can take her, then and there. But, these things had their own timing. That reciprocation would follow smoothly when all things turned your way. At the moment, your world is just short from crumbling away. It wasn't the kind where fissures opened up beneath you, a silent storm clouded your heart but you had the power to keep it at bay. To remain sane and tough despite the reality that was placed before you. You weren't the emotional type. And you didn't want to waste tears on something like this; no matter how painfully official it was.
Your parents were going to split apart after being together for so many years. You couldn't even imagine them living separate lives after being by their side through all the ups and downs, the shared memories, and the countless moments that had defined your bond with them. From how your mom always spoke fondly of your dad, to your dad teaching you the basics of self-defense and swordsmanship while your mom enjoyed the sights from the kitchen. While not in full, you had witnessed their love endure through arguments and reconciliations. And to see it all end coerced you to entertain all sorts of thoughts. What would be in store for you later on? Who would you go with if they were going to live in different places? You hadn't even listened to your mom's side of the story as you had rushed off after her unpredicted revelation. For sure, your dad would be the most disadvantageous here considering his circumstances.
Not only was he in prison but he had no stable income with all the laziness that followed him everywhere he went.
The thought of them not being together felt like the ground beneath your feet shifting, a fundamental part of your world unraveling. You remembered the little things: the way your mom would always make your dad food in the morning, the inside jokes that would make them both laugh until they cried, the way they looked at each other during special occasions with a silent understanding and deep affection. That made you cringe but it made you love them.
