Wei Ying thought he'd be dead once he let go of Lan Zhan's hand, only to wake up in a fancy bedroom chamber. He tried to get up but had to lie down again as his whole body hurt.
"Where am I? Did I not die? I want to just rest in peace."
The door opened, and a beautiful lady in red walked in. She was none other than Boashen Sanren, the Immortal Boashen Sanren known throughout the cultivation world. However, few knew she was a nine-tailed fox, and even fewer knew that Cangse Sanren was her biological daughter, a red nine-tailed fox and the current Monarch of the Fox Clan of Immortal Mountain.
"A-Ying, child, I'm glad you're finally awake. Here, have some water. I'm sure your throat is dry; you have been asleep for a month."
"Ah, where am I? Who are you, lady?"
"You are at Immortal Mountain, and I am your grandmother, Boashen Sanren."
"Grandmother? As in the legendary Immortal Boashen Sanren?"
The said Immortal just laughed and hugged him. Wei Ying immediately felt the warmth and love that radiated from his grandmother.
"Yes, child. I am the one and only. I am so sorry it took me so long to come to rescue you. I'm sorry I didn't know that you had suffered so much. But, I am here now."
Boashen Sanren then explained how she found him. She had thought he died along with his parents. After learning that her only daughter had died, Boashen Sanren went into seclusion, unable to bear the loss. She came to Yunmeng Jiang to ask Jiang Fengmian about her grandchild. But the late sect leader had said that Wei Ying had died along with his parents, shattering her already broken heart. So she retreated to her mountain in seclusion. It was only when she felt a strong urge and a heart-wrenching pain that she was able to track her only grandchild. That was when Wei Ying was dying from backlash from resentful energy. She immediately teleported and took her grandson away.
Wei Ying woke up to the sound of hushed voices and the soft rustling of silk. He blinked, adjusting to the dim light of the room. He noticed the warmth emanating from the hearth in the corner, casting a gentle glow on the walls adorned with intricate patterns.
"A-Ying, how are you feeling?" Boashen Sanren's gentle voice broke through his thoughts. She sat by his bedside, her hand softly brushing a stray lock of hair from his forehead.
"I feel... better," Wei Ying said, his voice still hoarse from disuse. "My body doesn't hurt as much."
"That's good to hear," a deep, reassuring voice added. Wei Ying turned to see a tall man with a strong yet kind face standing next to Boashen Sanren. "I'm Sanren Yao, your mother's brother. It is an honor to finally meet you, nephew."
"And I'm Sanren Qian," a young woman with striking features and a confident air said as she stepped forward.
"Your mother's cousin. We've brought some medicine to help you recover faster."
Wei Ying blinked in surprise, trying to process the information. Family. He had family. Not just the kind that took him in out of duty, but real, blood-related family. It felt surreal.
"Wei Ying," Boashen Sanren said softly, "we have brought something very important to help you. This medicine will not only aid your recovery but will also help restore your missing golden core."
"Restore my golden core?" Wei Ying echoed, disbelief coloring his tone. "But... how?"
"Immortal Mountain holds many secrets and powerful remedies," Sanren Yao explained. "With the right herbs and the right rituals, we can help you regain what you lost."
Sanren Qian approached with a small, intricately carved wooden box. She opened it to reveal several vials of shimmering liquid and a few dried, exotic herbs. "These are extremely rare and potent. The process will be painful, but the result will be worth it."
Wei Ying nodded, determination filling his eyes. "I'm ready."
Boashen Sanren gave him a reassuring smile. "We will be with you every step of the way, A-Ying. You are not alone."
With that, they began the preparations. Boashen Sanren and Sanren Yao worked together to create a concoction from the herbs, while Sanren Qian set up a formation around the bed, drawing intricate symbols with a mixture of powder and crushed gemstones.
As the night deepened, the air in the room grew thick with the scent of the potent brew. Boashen Sanren handed a steaming cup to Wei Ying.
"Drink this slowly. It will numb some of the pain."
Wei Ying took a deep breath and sipped the bitter liquid. Almost immediately, he felt a tingling sensation spread through his body, dulling the aches and pains. He lay back down, feeling a strange mix of anticipation and anxiety.
Sanren Yao placed his hands over Wei Ying's chest, murmuring an incantation. A warm, golden light began to emanate from his palms, slowly enveloping Wei Ying's body. Sanren Qian joined in, her own hands glowing with a soft, blue light that intertwined with her uncle's.
Wei Ying felt a surge of energy coursing through him, the warmth intensifying to an almost unbearable heat. He gritted his teeth, gripping the sheets tightly as the process continued. He could feel something shifting within him, a powerful force awakening where his golden core had once been.
Hours passed, the night giving way to the first light of dawn. Finally, the glow around Sanren Yao and Sanren Qian's hands faded, and they stepped back, exhausted but triumphant.
Boashen Sanren leaned in, her eyes filled with pride and relief.
"It's done, A-Ying. Your golden core is restored."
Wei Ying let out a shaky breath, tears of gratitude and joy filling his eyes.
"Thank you," he whispered. "Thank you all."
"You are part of our family, Wei Ying," Sanren Yao said warmly. "We will always be here for you."
As Wei Ying drifted back into a restful sleep, he felt a deep sense of belonging and hope for the future. He was no longer alone, and with his family by his side, he knew he could face whatever challenges lay ahead.
