Rejection
The campfire crackled and flickered, casting dancing shadows across the faces of the gathered campers.
Onika and Rihanna sat side by side, their laughter mingling with the warmth of the firelight.
"I can't believe you got lost for a day and a half with Squidward," Rihanna teased, nudging Onika playfully.
Onika chuckled despite herself, shaking her head. "Stop calling her that, Rihanna," she replied, a hint of amusement in her voice. "Beyoncé doesn't deserve that nickname."
Rihanna raised an eyebrow, a mischievous glint in her eyes. "Yet again, you have no context of why I call her that," she retorted, grinning.
Meanwhile, Beyoncé lay on the sand a short distance away, her head resting on a large log as she gazed up at the twinkling stars above.
The night sky stretched out endlessly, filled with constellations that seemed to whisper ancient stories.
Onika noticed Beyoncé and hesitated for a moment before making her way over.
She settled down next to Beyoncé, crossing her legs and taking a deep breath. "So, Squidward," she began, unable to resist a jab even in this serene moment.
Beyoncé turned her head to look at Onika, her expression unreadable for a moment. "You don't have to be nice to me just because we got lost together," she replied quietly, her voice tinged with a hint of vulnerability.
Onika felt a pang of guilt, realizing she had been unusually harsh lately. She shifted uncomfortably, unsure how to respond.
After a moment's hesitation, she extended a s'mores marshmallow and cracker to Beyoncé. "Here," she said softly. "It's not because we got lost. It's just... here."
Beyoncé regarded Onika with a mixture of surprise and gratitude. She took the offering with a small smile, nodding in thanks before taking a bite.
The sweetness melted on her tongue, a comforting contrast to the cool night air.
They lay in silence for a while, the crackling of the fire and the distant murmur of their friends providing a comforting backdrop.
Beyoncé turned to look at Onika, her gaze searching.
Onika met her gaze, feeling strangely vulnerable under Beyoncé's scrutiny. "What?" she asked defensively, her tone sharper than she intended.
Beyoncé sighed softly, her expression softening. "Nothing," she replied quietly. "Just... thanks, Onika."
Onika nodded slightly, her defenses softening. "Yeah, well... you're welcome, I guess," she muttered, unable to meet Beyoncé's eyes.
They lay side by side, the weight of unspoken words hanging between them. Despite their differences and occasional clashes, there was an unspoken bond that continued to draw them together, like two stars caught in the same orbit, destined to navigate the cosmos together.
As the campfire burned low and the night deepened, Onika and Beyoncé found a strange comfort in each other's presence, each silently grateful for the unexpected companionship they had found amidst the wilderness and the stars.

-Later, as everyone retreated to their bunks and settled into their beds, Onika felt a wave of nausea from the s'more she had eaten.
She slipped quietly out of her bunk and went outside, seeking some fresh air.
The cool night breeze was a relief, but as she walked toward a secluded spot to throw up, her eyes fell on an unexpected sight.
Beyoncé was undressing by the lake, her movements graceful and unhurried. Onika's heart skipped a beat, both from the surprise and a surge of concern.
What if the camp security caught her? Without thinking, Onika rushed over, her steps quick and silent.
"Beyoncé!" she hissed, trying to keep her voice low. "What are you doing? If security catches you, you'll be in so much trouble!"
Beyoncé, startled by Onika's sudden appearance, turned to face her. "Onika? What are you doing here?" she asked, a hint of laughter in her voice. "Join me, the water's amazing."
Onika crossed her arms, her expression stern. "No way. It's the middle of the night, and you're going to get us both in trouble."
Beyoncé rolled her eyes playfully. "Live a little, Onika. Come on, it's just a swim. Besides, you look like you could use it."
Onika shook her head, standing firm. "I'm not getting in there."
Beyoncé grinned mischievously and took a step closer. "Yes, you are."
Before Onika could protest further, Beyoncé grabbed her hand and pulled her into the lake, clothes and all.
The cold water enveloped Onika, shocking her system and making her gasp.
"Beyoncé!" Onika spluttered, trying to keep her footing. "I can't believe you just did that!"
Beyoncé laughed, her eyes sparkling with mischief. "Well, you're in now, so you might as well enjoy it."
Despite her initial anger, Onika couldn't help but crack a smile at Beyoncé's infectious laughter and playful spirit.
The tension between them dissolved into the cool water, leaving behind a strange sense of camaraderie.
Beyoncé couldn't resist pulling one more prank. With a mischievous glint in her eye, she gasped and pointed into the dark water. "Onika, there's something in the water!"
Onika's eyes widened in fear, and without thinking, she hurried to Beyoncé, jumping and wrapping her arms tightly around her neck. "What? Where?!" she exclaimed, panic in her voice.
Beyoncé burst into laughter, her body shaking with amusement. "Got you!" she managed to say between giggles.
Realizing she'd been pranked, Onika's fear quickly turned to frustration.
She smacked Beyoncé lightly on the arm. "That's not funny!" she huffed, but there was a hint of a smile playing at her lips.
As Onika slowly unwrapped herself from Beyoncé, she couldn't help but notice the warmth of Beyoncé's body against hers, the way the moonlight highlighted her features.
She found herself lingering, her eyes tracing the curve of Beyoncé's smile, the sparkle in her eyes. An unexpected wave of attraction surged through her, making her heart race.
Beyoncé noticed the way Onika was looking at her and felt a flutter of something unidentifiable in her chest.
She leaned in slightly, their faces just inches apart. Onika, feeling the intensity of the moment, leaned back and stammered, "What are you doing?"
Beyoncé's eyes widened with embarrassment. She pulled back, her cheeks flushing. "I-I wasn't-" she started, struggling to find the right words. "I just... thought... never mind."
Onika watched Beyoncé, feeling a mix of confusion and something else she couldn't quite name. "Beyoncé, what was that?" she asked softly, trying to understand.
But Beyoncé, clearly flustered, shook her head. "I have to go," she muttered, turning away and wading back toward the shore.
Onika stood in the water, watching her go, her mind swirling with conflicting emotions. The unexpected moment between them left her feeling more confused than ever, but also more intrigued by Beyoncé.
She knew there was something deeper between them, something she was only just beginning to understand.
