A Leaf In the Wind

(First Person p.o.v.)

I had sat next to Tenzin and began eating while Korra explained the last part of the game from the pro bending arena last night. She had asked but of course Tenzin isn't really going to let her go to a pro bending game. He calls it a "mockery" to bending. I think its just a different way of learning to bend.

"Come on, Tenzin! I've dreamed about seeing a pro-bending match since I was a kid and now I'm just a ferry ride away from the arena." Korra says pointing behind her.

"Korra, you're not here to watch that drivel. You're here to finish your Avatar training. So, for the time being, I want you to remain on the island." Tenzin says as he drinks some of his lychee juice. I had finished my breakfast and went to put it into the sink. I had walked out and decided to go visit Mako and Bolin AFTER I had to see what Korra was going to do.

(At the wooden gates)

"Korra's gonna airbend! Korra's gonna airbend!" Ikki says jumping a little excited.

"What is that contraption?" Korra asks as we walk up the stairs. "I never got the name of it myself. Its interesting to say the least though" I say to her as we stop next to the kids. "It is a time honored tool that teaches the most fundamental aspect of airbending. Jinora, would you like to explain this exercise?" Tenzin asks Jinora.

"The goal is to weave your way through the gates and make it to the other side without touching them." Jinora says while stepping up a bit.

"Seems easy enough" Korra says confidently.

"It isn't as easy as it seems" I say sweat dropping a bit.

"Jinora forgot to say that you have to make it through while the gates are spinning." Ikki says energetically.

Tenzin steps forward and bends some air to get the gates moving. I shivered remembering the feeling of how painful this was. I had to put ice on me for weeks on end. Tenzin holds up a leaf and lets it go to go through the spinning gates.

"The key is to be like the leaf. Flow with the movement of the gates. Jinora will demonstrate." Tenzin says as she runs over then starts weaving through the gates with ease.

"Airbending is all about spiral movements. When you meet resistance, you must be able to switch direction at a moment's notice." Tenzin says. After Jinora is through the other side she airbends some air to keep the gates spinning for Korra.

"Lets do this" Korra says determined as she runs...straight into a gate. Then continues to get hit whilst I winced from how painful they are. She gets knocked out the first time and lands on butt. She gets back up annoyed and determined to do it again and does it but STILL ends up getting hit. "Don't force your way through!" Jinora shouts so Korra can try to hear her. Korra gets hit again. "Dance! Dance like the wind!" Ikii says as she gets hit again. I had winced. "Be the leaf!" Meelo says as Korra gets hit for the last time then spins around before falling. I had winced and just looked an Tenzin.

"So...healing?" I says nervously. Tenzin takes a deep breath and shakes his head.

(The next day)

We were all sitting down in the lotus clothing meditating...well besides Korra. She couldn't stop moving.

"I think I'm doing it wrong." Korra says lowering her head.

"There's nothing to do. Let your mind and your spirit be free, for air is the element of freedom." Korra chuckles and waves her hands. "Is something...funny?" Tenzin asks dismayed.

"Yeah, you're telling me to embrace freedom, but you won't even let me listen to the radio. And forget about leaving this island!" Korra says with an angry expression on her face. I had sighed even though its true for me as well. I sneak out whenever I'm not busy. Or sometimes I ask to go and he lets me.
