I'm walking through the Walmart parking lot with tons of cars, with a list of requirements me and my coworker/ friend John have to attain. The list is some odd requests but it's something that has to be done. The words that left my Sargents mouth were " get these or be angry. This is a warning."I look over at John as we head in with a worried look as I open my list. " What do you think it is?" I ask with a shake in my voice. " I'm not sure but i hope this isn't as bad as the list is making it seem."
I pull my long black hair up into a ponytail and roll up my green long sleeve shirt revealing my tattoos. "John, what does your list say?" I grab him before we walk into the store. " same thing as yours except it came with a post-it." I grab the post-it from his hand and read aloud for only us to hear.
"Keep Jaclyn safe. SHE IS THE KEY."
" me? John, What does Sargent calman mean?" I pull my hair up tighter and walk in felling the cool breeze of the air conditioning on a hot summer night. " I'm not sure but seems like he put me in charge." He bumped my shoulder with his and chuckled lightly.
I opened my list and read outloud to John. Under big bold letters lied the words.
The list:
1. TIGHT MASKS
2. HAND SANITIZER
3. THE BEST RUNNING SHOES YOU WILL EVER NEED ( throw away your boots!)
4. Weapons ( go to a weaponry store. All of ours are in another location. We don't have enough.)
5. Water, food, thread, needle, first aid kits(many of them) and fire. For food only get cans and anything that last for eternity. For water only take a flask.
Don't forget keep each other in sight. Don't leave each other behind. Don't trust anyone and stay away from the Children. They are the ones to be afraid of the most. I wish you good luck my soldiers. May god help us.
"Don't come back to base. It's gone" I looked up from the paper to John, his mouth open about to say something I stopped him. "Not now John. Hold my hand and let's go."
As we clasped our hands together we ran in unison. We found the masks and put them on. We got the water flasks, the first aid kits and everything but the weapons. " ready to check out and run?" John asked squeezing my hand in his. I shook my head yes and we started to walk towards the front.
" STOP! Bag CHECK. YOU TWO ON THE RIGHT SIDE!" A worker screamed with a security guard hovering behind him. We stepped up to the table he was stationed behind. " what is this for? We are U.S military. We will not be treated this way." John said his face turning a tomato red.
" I'm sorry sir, it's just we aren't sure, but we are supposed to check before anyone leaves or is going to check out. It's world wide, every store in the u.s is doing it." The worker said voice shaky, clutching the table in fear.
" I understand." We both laid our findings and I.d's onto the table. " I heard this thing started in Afghanistan." The worker said.
" this is our first time hearing about it sir." I stated to the worker. The worker put his head down in sadness and disbelief. " you're clear." He winked. Putting something else into our bag. As we gathered our things and started to head out all phones alarmed, startling me. Big bold letters ran across John's phone screen.
' warning the anger epidemic is highly contagious and is in the air. Anyone infected or is refusing to be tested is by law with no hesitation, immediate extermination as well as the entire surrounding area. May god have mercy.'
