It was a big day for me today. I needed to win this case,a man's life was on the line.

With this thought I got out of bed. I got fresh and got ready.Made a much needed cup of coffee.I then collect all my important case files I needed for today and got into my car.

I drove towards the food truck outside the firm to buy me a breakfast bagel and left to go meet my client.

This case is about how an innocent man was falsely accused for the murder of a lady. He had to spend 12 years in jail and has not meet his family.

I entered the room and greeted Mr. John Williams
"I got somebody who wants to meet you" I told him. His daughter and son who he has not seen for almost 12 years entered the room. They all had tears in the their eyes. "Do you both really believe that I'm. innocent"John asked his children
"We do " they replied together and they hugged their dad.

" I made a promise Mr. Williams ,I won't let you die."I said and left the room to give them some space before we have to go to court as the trail will start in an hour.

I was going to take a risk today, let's hope it will work. The night they found John near the lady's body he was with a friend, he was John's alibi but we found out that he had died 5 years ago, John's previous attorney couldn't do a bloody proper job. As I was going through the files yesterday I noticed something about Pete who was John's alibi and friend. Pete couldn't even afford to get somewhere through a taxi but he suddenly shifted to a new state and has even got a good job when he had less education than what was required for the job. As I sat I was  wondering how that was possible,I realised it could be Mr Jackson who was the victim's husband. For today I'll be taking a risk of asking him about this when he is under oath. Let's hope it will not backfire.

I drove to the court,it was time for trial to start. I meet my associate kara waiting for me.

" Kara why do you look nervous?" I asked her
"Do you think the plan will work?"she counter questioned me
"Well if you don't get that look off your face,they will know we are up to something. Be calm and let me handle it, have some faith in me." I said with a smirk
"Come on now,trial is starting"I said and walked inside. The judge came and took his seat

The trial has started

"Your honour I would like to call Mr John Williams on the stand" I stood up and said.

Mr John went on stand. " Mr John would you like to tell us what really happened that day?"

"I and Pete had gone out for some drinks, we had gotten hungry so we were going to get something to eat, we saw a lady bleeding on the footpath. Pete had gotten scared and I wanted to help her. She kept crying for help, I had sent Pete to go get help by the time the police had arrived she had died and they found me next to her and the next thing I know it they are arresting me." John spoke

"You had a wife and children right  before you went to prison?" I asked

"My wife died 4 years after I went to prison, and I hadn't seen my children until you found them and told that I was innocent and that you were going to prove it " he replied

" No further questions your honour " I said and went to my seat

The opposition lawyer stood and said" As Mr John is playing the role of a grieving husband I'd like to call Mr Jackson on stand "

"Mr. Jackson would you tell us about your wife " the lawyer asked

" She was beautiful,she was there for me anytime I felt low, I had made a promise that I'll keep her safe and protect her. That day she had called to say that  she will be coming home little late and the next thing I know is that the police are calling me to say that my wife is dead. And that man is sharing his grief about his family,but what about mine" Mr Jackson said

"Did you see Mr John kill you wife" I asked him
" Welll..uhh no but I knew it was him" Mr Jackson replied

I just raised my eyebrow at him
"Well do you know Pete Martin ?" I asked him
"Never heard of him" he said
"So your saying that you didn't bribe him to go to another state so that he couldn't testify and prove that Mr John is innocent? " I asked him
The opposition lawyer stood up and said "objection, putting the victim on trial"
" My client is the victim not yours" I told him
" Objection overruled" the judge said

"No I didn't " Mr Jackson said

"Your honour the defence would like to admit evidence form for a Thomas James." I said as Kara handed the sheet to the judge

" Who's... That ?" Mr Jackson asked
" He was Mr Pete's roomate and I'll be putting him on stand and he will admit that pete told him that he felt horrible and guilty about abandoning his friend" I said

"No that cannot happen,it's not possible" Mr Jackson said nervously

The opposition lawyer stood up and said"objection, hearsay"
" Overruled" the judge said
" No he can't" Mr Jackson said
" He will testify how you paid pete money to move to a whole different state how you gave him a job"I said

"Well he is lying " mr Jackson replied
"Why do you think he will lie ? " I asked him
" He just wants to tell the truth " I told him
"The truth is already out " Mr Jackson said
" Not according to his roommate" I fired back
"He's lying !!" Mr Jackson said

"Objection, badgering" the opposition lawyer said

"How could you know he is lying "I said with with a slight raised voice

" Because he never had a roommate " Mr Jackson exploded
"What did you just say" I asked him

His lawyer sat down in defeat

"Yes I paid Pete, because he was just some drunk guy who will say anything just to save his friend and I knew it, that animal killed my wife so I took care of that drunkard " Mr Jackson said
" Mr Jackson -- " I went to say
" He did it" Mr Jackson said in anger."That man killed my wife"

I faced the judge and said "Your honour I would like for my client's sentence to be called off"
"Mr huges" called out to the other lawyer
"I have no objections your honour " the opposition lawyer said.

"The jury may be excused and Mr John Williams you are now a free man " the judge said

I won.

I saved his life.

He was hugging his children in happiness. I went towards him and shook his hands

"I don't know how I can ever
thank you" John said

" You could thank me by walking out of that door with your children and enjoy your freedom " I told him with a smile.

I turned towards Kara and said"I told you have some faith in me, I didn't just become one of the best lawyer for no reason. " I told her with a smirk

"Never doubted you for a second " kara said chuckling

I just looked at her with a 'I don't believe you' look

"Ofcourse you didn't kara, now let's get out of here" I said
