AUTUMN

I was transfixed by the Bellagio fountain as it showered water into the sky, lights of all different colors in each pillar of water. The hotel stood in all of its glory just behind the sight. Violins were playing, the water seemingly following the tune.

"It's soooo beautiful." I gushed to my sister, Kristina, laying my head on her shoulder. "I can't believe I'm actually witnessing this right now."

Kristina chortled. "I never thought we'd be in Vegas."

"Neither did I," I sighed blissfully, letting my eyes close for a moment.

"This is definitely nothing like San Francisco." she said.

"Nothing at all." I nodded in agreement.

"Are you drunk?" Kristina asked.

"Yes," I nodded. "What about you?"

Kristina nodded slowly. "Yeahhh."

I interlocked my fingers with hers, snuggling my face into her shoulder. I smiled. I was happy. Drunk and happy. In Las Vegas. As I stared at the water mountain show, I couldn't help but feel like that. Free and floating.

"I enjoyed myself tonight," I said.

"Me too. I'm so happy we decided to come here."

"Mhmmm." I removed my hand from hers and stood up again. I began cheering.

"Autumn, shut up." Kristina spoke through gritted teeth, slapping my hand. I looked around to see I was being sent some dirty looks.

I chuckled. "Come on, people! Lighten up! We're in Vegas!"

We were going back to California tomorrow, I wanted to enjoy my last hours of bliss in Vegas while I could. I'll be damned if some party poopers ruin that for me.

We were in Vegas because our sister, Tessa's boyfriend, Sam, had a business trip here and they invited us. Well, Sam surprised Tessa by flying me and Kristina here. He didn't want her to be all alone in Vegas while he was working. Unfortunately, it was a fast trip, and Kristina and I had to get back to work.

Even though we have an early flight tomorrow, we still wanted to enjoy our last night in Vegas. So we partied. And we enjoyed it. We never, ever got to do things like this anymore.

I forgot what it was like to actually have fun. And it pissed me off that it had to be so brief.

Once the fountain show concluded, the crowd scattered off to other areas on the Strip, or back to their hotels.

"Should we go back to the hotel?" Kristina asked.

I leaned my head on her shoulder again and whined, "Noooo!"
