POV Y/N:
Y/N: So your name is Oscar Piastri?
Oscar: Yes, nice to meet you.
Y/N: So you are the Formula Renault Eurocup champion, you were incredible last year.Oscar: Oh yeah, it wasn't easy but I did my best.
After a long discussion between the two teammates, Sébastien Philipe, the director of ART GP, makes a final debrief before getting in the car.
Sébastien: Well, you will discover the car for the first time in real, the setups you found in the simulator to trace it from Barcelona are already put on the cars so try them, and according to the feelings they will change. Certainly, setups are not equal for each great price but this will allow us to know your driving style
After the debriefing, I get in my F3 car. I do not find a big difference for the moment with an F4 but wait for the results. I'm starting to get out of Pit Lane and I'm well advised to pay attention to the tire. After my preparation lap, I start on fast laps, adaptation laps and learning laps. After 30 minutes of driving, Sébastien comes back to debrief us according to test
Sébastien: Well, given your lap times, you are very close, Piastri is at 2'07'828 and Y/N is at 2'07'837, the gap is 9 thousandths and you already on the times of the drivers of last year, it's remarkable. A positive point is that you have the same riding style, which will greatly facilitate the tests to be carried out during the only free practice session available. So we finished for today and so go to the 1st grand prix of the season, that of Bahrain and you will have this time the F3 of this year. Good day and end of evening, and thank you again
After the end of the debrief, I thanked the whole team for the work and I went back to my cabin to tidy up my stuff until I heard a noise at the door. It was Piastri who, before returning home, had knocked. He entered:
Oscar: Hey.
Y/N: Hey.
Oscar: What do you say after you go back to the hotel, go out and eat something?
Y/N: Why not, I'm hungry.
After going into town:
Y/N: So what are we eating?
Oscar: We can eat here, this big brewery.
Y/N: Why not!
Pov 3rd person:
Our two pilots get to know each other during the meal and during their ride in town. They talk to each other about their future goals, their journey so far and now they go back to the hotel and say to themselves one last review because their next meeting will be in Bahrain for the 1st Formula 3 Grand Prix in about three months.
Three months plus tars
After spending Christmas and training physically, Y/N by for the pre-season trials which takes place over three days. Arriving after a long flight, he enters the hotel and decides to fall asleep to be ready for tomorrow. The next day, Y/N arrives in the paddock and after an hour of meeting between the racing engineers, the drivers and the director of the team, the sessions started and the lap times arrive. In conclusion of this first session, it is Y/N Y/L who arrives in the lead with a time of 1 min 46 s 827. On the second day, it is Oscar Piastri with a time of 1 min 46 s 258 and on the third and last day, it is once again Y/N Y/L ave this time if a time of 1 min 46 s 024.
The first F3 Grand Prix takes place 20 days after testing and Y/N decides to go home. He was eager to start this first season of F3 but an event upsets all the calendar. Indeed the covid-19 has upset the daily life of many people, many events including Formula 3 and the championship is postponed. Y/N and Oscar are very disgusted and have thus passed their confinement by playing together which allowed to strengthen their friendship.
The two friends waited a long time, until June 2 as the FIA finally unveils the calendar. Nine races are available: two in Austria on the Red Bull Ring, one in Hungary on the Hungaroring, two in England at Silverstone, one in Spain on the Circuit de Catalunya, one in Belgium at Spa-Francorchamps and two in Italy on the Monza racetrack and on the Mugello circuit.
Pov Y/N:
It is finally the beginning of the F3 championship. We arrived in Austria on Monday with Oscar and it was great to see him again after being confined for a long time. Despite the majority of closed service, we manage to enjoy Austria until we arrive in the paddocks for the 1st Weekend of the championship. We see the team again, our engineers, our director and we can finally get back in the car for those 45 minutes of free practice before qualifying.
After the free practice which went well with me and Oscar in the top 5, the qualifying starts and I decide to leave only at the beginning and at the end. After the first relay rather badly succeeded, I go out at the end for a last attempt.
Engineers: Ok Y/N you are 1.3s from the pole owned by Oscar.
The lap starts and I turn after turn, sector after sector until I arrive at the finish line.
Engineers: Incredible Y/N you are in pole, the first of the season, your turn was incredible.
Y/N: Oh thank you all, the settings are perfect, but Oscar is how much?
Engineers: He's P3, P3.
When I arrive, I go to the engineers who congratulate me and Oscar comes to congratulate me.
Oscar: Congratulations.
Y/N: Thank you, you're not that bad yourself.
Returning to the garage, we have one last meeting of the day, the one after qualifying then I greet all the team before returning to the hotel.
Y/N: Well tomorrow will be a very complicated race....
