──★ Chapter six

"Just let me go through your backpack one more time. To make sure you got everything."

Adira and Kian stood in cabin eleven, surrounded by a chaotic array of clothes, weapons, and various supplies strewn across the floor and her bed. As Kian helped her pack for her upcoming quest, he handed her a generous supply of ambrosia, enough to feed at least a hundred hellhounds.

He also checked her backpack every five minutes.

Adira ran a hand through her tousled curls, her fingers tangling briefly before she let out a long, weary sigh. Her eyes narrowed slightly as she watched Kian for a moment, who was hunched over her backpack.

"Kinney, that's the fourth time—" she started, her tone edged with frustration. She placed a hand on her hip, tapping her foot impatiently.

"I don't care." Kian cut her off, his voice firm but his eyes soft with concern. He glanced up briefly, then returned to carefully checking the contents of the bag.

Adira crossed her arms, shifting her weight from one foot to the other. "Are you happy now?" she asked, raising an eyebrow.

Kian paused, a thoughtful expression crossing his face. "Ehhh, could use some nectar," he mumbled, scratching the back of his head, clearly still not satisfied.

Adira threw her hands up in exasperation. "Okay, that's it. I'm going now," she declared, grabbing the backpack and slinging it over her shoulder.

Kian's eyes widened in sudden alarm. "Wait!" he exclaimed, scrambling to his feet, nearly tripping over their stuff on the ground. "I'll get you some nectar! I'll meet you at Thal's tree!" he yelled as he ran out the door.

"Kinney, no-" she tried to stop him, but he had already sprinted off. She pressed her lips into a thin line before checking her appearance.

She quickly looked in a mirror and saw that her hair was a mess. A big mess. The girl swiftly twisted her hair into one neat braid, hoping it would stay neat for at least a few hours.

Adira left Cabin Eleven and made her way towards Thalia's pine tree. This was the agreed-upon meeting spot where she would join Percy, Annabeth, Grover, Chiron and now Kian.

She packed two sets of spare clothes, toiletries, ambrosia and money. The camp store loaned each of them a hundred dollars in mortal money and twenty golden drachmas. The Stolls offered to steal more drachmas for Adira, but she declined because she knew they would get into trouble for it.

Thanks to Silena Beauregard's thoughtfulness, Adira had a supply of hair ties on her. Silena had insisted, knowing that Adira's hair could be a mess if it got wet. Additionally, the Aphrodite camper had slipped her a tube of chapstick upon hearing that Adira had forgotten to pack any.

The morning sun bathed the camp in a warm, golden light, casting long shadows and highlighting the vibrant greenery. The air was fresh, carrying the sounds of nature and the faint chatter of other campers starting their day.

Adira strutted in dark blue, low-slung baggy denim jeans paired effortlessly with a form-fitting, long-sleeve top that exposed part of her left shoulder. Her hair was now elegantly braided and adorned with golden ringlets, complemented by matching rings on her fingers and a delicate necklace.

She walked up the hill and saw all of them except Annabeth and Kian already standing there. Grover looked like he wore his fake feet and his trousers to pass as human. He wore a green rasta-style cap to hide his horns. His bright orange backpack, which almost blinded Adira, looked fully packed.
