Chapter 1-finding out

Hailey's pov
I wake up when Jay's phone starts ringing but he doesn't so I shake him a little to wake him up
"Babe Voight's calling" I say he rolls over and answers the phone whatever Voight said makes him shoot up and start getting out of bed when he hangs up I asks what's up with him

"Gregory Yates escaped from prison" he says
"Who" I ask still half asleep
"Um right before your time ok so Erin was really close with this girl Nadia they were like sisters and Nadia got out of the life and was in the process of becoming an officer but then we got a case girls being raped and left to die in a fire to burn any and all DNA this guy was extremely smart but lucky we caught his ass but he found Nadia before we could get him and he killed her Erin struggled so much with her death she was never really the same"

"Ok so what are we in charge of finding him"
"Yeah let's go I'll make coffee well you dressed let's go" he's never rushed this much that's what makes me nervous I've never seen him this worried over an old case coming back but this one seems personal which is so much worse the last time a case got personal he almost died I got up and dressed and ready and walked into the kitchen to see jay sipping his coffee and putting creamer in mine he hands it to me and we leave

once we get to the district we went upstairs and the rest of the team was already there
"Ok now that you guys are here Gregory Yates was a sexual offender who killed one of our own Erin is unaware of this and we are keeping it that understood" Voight looked directly at Jay while saying the last part

"Sarge do you really think it's best if he's out he could be going after her you know what this guy used to do to her" Jay says
"I know he's not going anywhere near New York because that's where he's most wanted if he smart he'll go someplace where nobody is looking for him where that is I don't know that why you guys are here now get to work I don't need to remind you what this guy did last time" Voight then walks off to his office and we start working it's 2 am when we start digging into him and I start reading over the last case file Kim gets up to get a coffee refill and I wasn't getting what I wanted from the file so I went to the break room and asked Kim about it

"So what really happened with this guy" I ask her
"Well you know what's in the file but this was going on and Jay and Erin had a thing"
"Yeah I know but Nadia what was she like"
"She was like a little sister or sometimes even like a daughter to Erin so she took her death the hardest but she wasn't the only one who was affected she hang around here all the time even Trudy liked her"
"Wow so this is a hard case for Jay"

"Yeah I can only assume" I nod and she continues "but I'm sure it's nothing and you know he's married to you now" she adds quickly but that's not what I'm worried about I knew him and Erin had a thing but this there's something different about him
"That's not what I'm worried about Kim I'm not like that even if that was what was bothering me I'm worried the last time a case got this personal well you know what happened"

"Yeah Jay tends to wear his emotions on his sleeves but that's why we all love him right so try not to worry"
"Yeah thanks Kim"
"Anytime Hailey" we both walk out and Kevin looks surprised then looks at all of us and calls all of us over and Voight comes out of his office
"He's in LA" Kiven says

"Ok I want all of you to be ready to head to LA once I get local PD on board and help down in LA got"
"Yeah" we all replied we left to get our go bags from home me and Jay grabbed Voights go bag as well and we got back to the district and Voight told us to head to the airport we were all getting on a red eye to LA

Lucy's pov
Grey starts the briefing a little later than usual I sit next to Nolan like I do everyday and grey starts talking
"Ok we all know how night shift operates usually but last night they actually did their job so everyone but Lopez, Harper, Bradford, Chen, and Nolan and Celina you guys are running a special assignment for me so stay to hear the details but everyone else go stop some crime" he finishes everyone leaves and now we are the only ones left

"Sarge what's the special assignment" Nolan asks
"Well if you would let me get to that, we have a group of officers from Chicago coming they should be here soon I'll let fully explain what the hell is going on because even I don't fully know yet all I know is that they are after a guy that took one of their own so it's personal for them and we will do everything to help them out"

"so each of you will be riding with one of them so here it is Bradford you will be riding with a detective Halstead, Chen your with Detective Upton, Angela you are riding with an Officer Burgess, Nyla with an Officer Atwater, Nolan and Celina will be riding together still but you will have an Officer Ruzek, look I know this is going to be out of the normal for us so I need all of you on your best behavior, me and Sergeant Voight will be riding together they want everybody in plain clothes so go change and get back in here to meet these people" we go change into plain clothes and when I finish I find Tim

"Hey is this usual" I ask him
"Another team coming down actually asking for help no but maybe they do things differently" he says
"So do you believe that they want to catch the guy or should I be prepared to lie" I ask

"Hard to say looks like they're here" he says and point I turn around and see them walking into roll call room and introduce themselves me and Tim walk back into the roll call room and the older looking one nods to the other and they all sit down and he starts talking

"Is this everyone" he ask Grey
"Yes alright listen up" Grey says
"Alright everyone I'm Sergeant Voight I'm in charge of these lovely officers that you will be working with so before we get into that we will get into the case Hailey" and a blonde girl starts talking

"Yeah ok so Gregory Yates raped and killed multiple women, killed an officer in training, and tried to come after an officer who used to be in this unit" she say and a dark haired guy speaks up

"He likes the chase of it all he finds it fun and he loves playing mind games which is how we needing up getting him in the first the place he played to many mind games and we won" mind games great this guys sounds horrible then a girl with red hair speaks up

"Also he's smart but not too smart he had help but the only help he could've got was from a guy who goes by the name ripper he's know for trying and successfully killing cops he was in prison but made a deal he lives here in LA as of last year we think he helped our guy get out of prison"
"Which is why he believe he was here" a guy with blonde hair adds
"Ok so I'm sure everyone knows what they're doing if not Sargent Grey will tell you I have a phone call to make" Voight says and leaves
