Mission Elimination

Another chapter, another day in school. The weekends couldn't come any later in this book.

When the first class ended, I followed Yan-chan through the corridors.

"Why are you following me?"
Yan-chan asked while walking forward.

"I want to eat lunch with you. Where are you going to eat?"

I've been so busy lately that I forgot my main goal....watching Yan-chan eat.

"The fountain."

Huh? Wait, she answered just like that? I thought it would take a little more questioning for her to spill but she actually just gave it to me?

"I know what you're thinking. But you're just going to follow me all the way there if I didn't answer, correct?"
She said as if reading my mind.

Her face remains deadpan as always, but I'd like to imagine a smug, shit-eating grin on her face as she realizes that she's correct.

Because of the funny picture in my mind, I ended up smiling too.

"Heheh, you know me so well, Yan-chan."

But suddenly, she paused and put her bento on my hands.

"Hold this for me, please."
She said.

"Huh? Okay."
Though confused, I immediately did what was asked of me and secured her bento in my arms.

When her hands were free, she bent down and removed her shoe. Going on to then flip it upside down and shaking it a few times.

"Dust?"
I asked.

"Yes. Sorry for the inconvenience."
She said while setting down her shoe again.

"It's okay."

But just as she was about to step into her shoe, I smirked and kicked it from under her foot, making it slide away. I might have kicked it a little too hard though, since the shoe didn't stop. Most of the others flinched and avoided it in time. Most.

Unfortunately, it slid towards the general direction of that clumsy Kyuji lobsterhead. Kyuji wasn't looking where he was stepping so he tripped over Yan-chan's gliding shoe. He tried to steady himself by grabbing onto something and unfortunately for a certain ginger, she just so happened to be the closest thing. He proceeded to pull Osana, who was just passing by, down with him.

By the end of their fall, their position looked quite intimate, with Osana's hands on either side of Kyuji's head, inches away from a kiss. Her long twintails brushing against his cheek while they stare deeply into eachother's eyes. In anime convention, it would've been the guy that was on top but I think this is more fun to witness.

Raibaru, Osana's bestfriend, was stunned from how quickly things happened but when she got her bearings, she pulled Osana up and started scolding Kyuji lobsterhead.

Looking towards Yan-chan who had her shoeless foot up, I could tell that she doesn't know how to go over there and retrieve her shoe without making the situation even more awkward. Me, the main perpetrator, watched on the side as I covered my mouth to stifle a laugh. Who knew a small joke would make so much chaos.

"Be careful next time!"

Osana's booming voice made it all the way to where Yan-chan and I were standing while Kyuji bent down in a 90° angle to apologize. The instrument of this accident, Yan-chan's shoe, went completely unnoticed because of how flustered they all were.

While I was hunched over and dying inside, Yan-chan lightly pushed me forward with an angry expression and said—

"This is your fault so you have to get it."
Obviously referring to her shoe.

I knew Yan-chan wasn't actually angry and that she was just putting on a face to intimidate me. But in all honesty, it's adorable, genuine or not. I couldn't help myself and started petting her on top of her head to soothe her.

"Come on, don't look at me like that. Just wait 'til they leave and I'll get it for you, okay?"
I said with amused laughter, but Yan-chan didn't look too impressed.

We didn't have to wait long before Osana turned around and started walking away, but I noticed that her ears were kind of red and I don't think that was just from anger.

Shit, did I matchmake them already?

I-I mean, of course I knew that was gonna happen! This way, Yan-chan would have one less rival to worry about once she meets Senpai! That was definitely on purpose and not at all a joke to inconvenience Yan-chan!

Now, all Kyuji needs is a little push to pursue Osana and since Yan-chan wouldn't do it, it falls down to me to take action, naturally.

I'll meet up with him later. For now, I'll enjoy my lunch date with Yan-chan!

"Fetch me my shoe already!"

"Okay okay, calm down."

Well, I ate with Yan-chan but that's pretty much it. She was feeling moody and didn't want to talk so we ate in complete silence.

I opened up my phone after finishing my food and saw that I still have a couple minutes left to spare until the next class. Normally, I'd want to stick with Yan-chan right now but there's still the potential Kyuji and Osana matchmake. I expected to wait 'til my second year to start eliminating rivals but how could I let go of a potential elimination if it just walked right up to my doorstep?

I'm not actually sure if Kyuji has a crush on Osana during this time. He did in the gameplay but that took place in Yan-chan's second year so I don't know about it right now. Well, it doesn't matter. He'll thank me later.

Yan-chan is still eating so it's the perfect time, she wouldn't catch me being all sneaky if she's all the way out here.

I stood up which caught her attention.

"I have something to do, Yan-chan. You don't have to wait for me. Just go ahead to the next class."

She just nodded her head and continued to eat without even looking up. Yep, like I said, moody.

"See you later!"

I ran all the way back to my classroom to write a note then ran back down towards the lockers. By the time I got there, I was already panting and out of breath. I didn't know being a yandere was so exhausting, Yan-chan pulled it off but it's definitely not for me.

I went to Kyuji's locker and very obviously placed a sheet of pink paper into it, making sure to squirm a little and act all shy. Sure enough, my actions gained the attention of some girls who immediately "figured out" what was happening and rushed out to tell lobsterhead that someone placed a note in his locker.

The basic contents of the note is just talking about how I'd like to meet him at the rooftop before class starts to have a quick chat.

I looked up the staircase, preparing myself for what I'm about to do. I took in a deep breath and started running again up the stairs, not stopping until I got to the rooftop. I climbed four flights of stairs. FOUR. Po from Kung Fu Panda was right, stairs really are mankind's greatest enemy.

"Haa, the things I do for you Yan-chan..."

I sighed while leaning against the rooftop railing to catch my breath, feeling the breeze rustling my hair. It's peaceful up here. The large, fluffy clouds block out the harsh sunlight and the noises of the students below are muffled and distant. A feeling of calmness creeped up on me. I closed my eyes and leaned further into the railing, but just as I was about to relax completely, lobsterhead came.

"Um, excuse me? Are you the one that wanted to see me?"
