Haerin stood in front of Danielle’s house, her hands shoved deep into the pockets of her hoodie. Despite her nonchalant exterior, she was excited about the sleepover. She looked over her shoulder to see Hanni approaching, her own excitement barely contained.
The door swung open before Haerin could knock, and there stood Danielle, her extroverted and bubbly nature evident in her wide grin. “Hey, Haerin! Hi, Hanni! Come on in!”
Haerin gave a small nod, stepping inside with Hanni following closely. Danielle’s house was warm and inviting, decorated with fairy lights and cozy blankets. In the living room, Minji was already there, helping Danielle set up snacks.
“Haerin, Hanni, this is Minji,” Danielle introduced, her eyes twinkling. “Minji, these are my friends Haerin and Hanni.”

Danielle brought out a stack of movies, and they decided on a mix of comedies and horror films. Haerin found herself sitting next to Danielle on the couch, their shoulders touching. Haerin paused, glancing around the room. “I appreciate Danielle’s ability to make everyone feel welcome and happy. Hanni has always been a great friend, loyal and kind. And Minji, even though we just met, I can see how caring and understanding you are.”
Danielle beamed at Haerin’s words, her heart swelling with affection. Minji blushed slightly, sharing a quick, meaningful glance with Hanni.
As the night wore on, they all ended up in their pajamas, sprawled out on the living room floor amidst pillows and blankets. Haerin felt a sense of belonging she hadn’t experienced before. She glanced at Danielle, who was chatting animatedly with Minji and Hanni.
Eventually, the conversation shifted to dreams and aspirations. Minji and Hanni admitted their feelings for each other, earning cheers and supportive hugs from Danielle and Haerin.
When it was time to sleep, Haerin found herself lying next to Danielle. In the darkness, she felt Danielle’s hand find hers. She squeezed it gently, a silent promise of the new beginning they had both embraced.
