CHAPTER FIVE,
promise meAMONGST the bustling crowd and thunderous music, a girl sat quietly by the docks. Every other pirate were eager to drink and converse with their mates, another day spent in joy as they ate at the Baratie and found a place in the sea to rest. Her last day was spent in confusing sorrow, pondering on what choice she would have made if there wasn't many other things bound to rip her apart. The surface of the sea seemed so close...
"Are you alright?"
A familiar voice took her attention away from the calm waters. Jie saw the orange hair and bright eyes. It was the girl that was with Luffy's group in the restaurant. If she remembered correctly, Nami. The scent of alcohol lingered. Maybe Nami had just went drinking at the bar, but it didn't matter to her. As long as she wasn't belligerently drunk and rowdy, like the rest of the drunk pirates scattered around the place.
"Yes, thank you."
It's all Jie managed to say.
"You sure don't look alright," Nami said gently, placing herself next to her. Jie's gloomy demeanor was quite noticeable, it seemed. Nami had probably been drinking at the bar just moments before, but she spoke so clearly that she sounded completely sober. A woman who loved her liquor and loved it.
"My name is Nami. What about you?"
Jie managed to force a weak smile.
"It's Jie. How did you know?"
"I can tell," Nami shrugged, her lips curling in a sly smile. Not wanting to pry into the details from a girl she just met, Nami held out her hand and spoke to her warmly. "Do you wanna join us at the bar? We're an interesting group, but they're good people. At least, I'd like to think that way."
This was the last day she would be in the port. What reason did she have to say no?
Jie nodded and let Nami take her away.
Near the fish-shaped bar, the same man with the pirate hat and reddish coat passed by the duo. His body slightly swayed as he stumbled on his feet, the liquor getting to him much quicker. A glass gripped in his hands, half full. He pointed at Jie, his finger stuck in her direction before a grin creeped up on his face. His expression changed from a drunken daze to a warm smile.
"Oh! Hey, Nami. And...I remember you! The waitress. Only waitress in that restaurant."
"This is Usopp," Nami rolled her eyes at him. "And Usopp, this is Jie, not 'the waitress'. Don't drink too much, you're already drunk. Come on, Jie."
