_____________
CHAPTER THREE,
you're stuck in my headThe scent of rubbing alcohol became sickly when the smell of food wouldn't go away. Jie let out a hiss of pain before bandaging the wound on her leg. The rowdy pirates left the restaurant, leaving the cooks to settle back into the kitchen and waiters taking orders from hungry customers. The suit blazer on her shoulders weighed like a piece of metal.
I heard your angry voice as you cursed them.
"Are you okay?"
"If it weren't for the smell of tomatoes, yeah,"
Jie said as she took off the suit jacket and folded it neatly aside. His suit was always clean, without a speck of dust. The bench inside the kitchen stood in the back, far away from the bustle. The slight faster beat of her heart felt absurd, silly even."Shouldn't you be in the kitchen for lunch prep? Zeff will get mad at you."
"I'm used to it, besides those damn bastards needed a good beating. They ought to think twice before disrespecting...anyway," Sanji trailed off, before sitting down next to her with a tinge of anger in his expression. His eyes glanced at her stained apron before looking away, the anger dissipating to a subtle smile on his face. "Why did you take off the jacket? It looked good on you."
Jie let out a haughty laugh. "Funny."
"Not funny, I'm serious." Sanji said, his light voice turning into a dark, low tone. She wondered if he was trying to make a joke, or to tease her, but she didn't expect him to lean in slightly. His flirtatious demeanor and sweet words were sometimes overbearing, a charming part of his personality.
Even if his pick-up lines didn't always work.
It won't last forever. That's what Jie thought until another day of tiring waitressing in the Baratie. That day had been quite cloudy, the dreary fog settling into the skies and creating a busy lunchtime rush. Without it a clear sight of the ocean seas, all pirates were settling onto port and grabbing food while waiting for the fog to disappear.
The sound of shouting and angry voices came from the restaurant, muffled by the kitchen walls. Sanji's booming voice quickly shushed the room from panicking any further and Jie just knew another fight had broken out...again. It seemed like dinner time was the perfect moment to start fights.
"Get this to table six, Jie," Patty ordered as he dropped a plate in front of her. Nodding, the muffled sounds of angry yelling behind the kitchen doors echoed. Sanji had been sent out to deal with the problematic customers, like he usually did. "No shaky hands this time, you'll spill the sauce off the food."
