Chapter 1

I hurried through the crowded university campus, my books clutched tightly to my chest. I was a 3rd-year college student taking up Bachelor of Secondary Education, with a deep passion for literature and history. However, there was one subject that I despised above all others—Mathematics.

"Gosh, first day of school late agad ako. Gagiii nakakahiya sa professor ko. I'm dead. " hinahapong sambit ko sa sarili ko.

With a heavy sigh, I entered the room where Professor Amil awaited, his sharp gaze piercing through the room. As I took my seat, surrounded by eager math enthusiasts, I braced myself for the inevitable struggle ahead—a journey that would test my limits, challenge my beliefs, and ultimately lead to confront my fears head-on. Nang makaupo na ako ng maayos ay nagsimula na ang walang sawang 'Introduce yourself.'

"Hi, I'm Crey Jelyn De Vera. I'm 20 years old. I like dancing and most specially eating. I hope na makilala ko pa kayong lahat."

"Alliah Janice Marasigan. A 20 years old cheerdancer and an only child."

"Hello everyone. I'm Ailyn Therese Acruz. 21 years of age. I like watching kdrama and cdrama. I hope na magkasundo-sundo tayong lahat. "

"Hi guys, Shakira Roxane Dela Rosa. 20 na taong gulang. Ako ay mahilig sa mga alagang pusa at aso. Favorite color ko din Ang blue."

"Louise Annabelle Magpantay. 21 years of age. I love hanging out with my friends and most especially with my family. I love burger and sundae. I also like watching kdrama."

"I'm Jasmin Julia Romero. I'm the girl who loves makeup so much most especially I'm a type of girl who obsessed with blush on. I wear makeup whenever I go out with my friends to feel more confident."

"Hello everyone. Nice to meet you all. I'm Aira Rochelle Santos. I like reading books and watching kdrama and cdrama as well. I love being around with people who's creative and talented. And that's all. Thank you."

"Athena Kathlyn Jean Marquez. 20 years old. I'm a model and I love pageantry so much. "

"And last but not the least Ms?" nagtagpo ang aming mga mata. Kinakabahan ako.

"Ah eh, Hi guys. My name is Ashlienne Blythe Zelestaire Zapanta. I just turned 20 last month. I'm a dancer, singer and baker. We owned a Bakery and isa ako sa nagbebake don. I have a twin brother and his name is Alexander Bryte Zecharius. I'm to 27 minutes older than him. Actually opposite kami ng ugali. He's nonchalant and introvert and I am too vocal and an extrovert. My favorite color is pink. I am looking forward to getting to know you all and making new connections. It's my pleasure to introduce myself. I can't wait to see what the future holds for us all. Paulit-ulit naman ang scenario every first day of school eh. Pakilala sa lahat ng prof na para bang hindi kami naging students noong sophomore era namin.

As I settled into my seat, Professor Amil began the class with a challenging problem that left the room buzzing with anticipation. The other students eagerly scribbled notes and furrowed their brows in concentration, but I sat frozen, my mind a blank canvas in the face of the daunting equation on the board.

"Is there anything wrong Ms. Zapanta?" nagulat ako sa biglaang tanong ni Sir Amil.

Napataas muna ang kilay ko sa tanong nya. "Natandaan mo na agad last name ko ah. Bakit?Balak mo na bang palitan agad?" mahinang bulong ko sa sarili ko habang nakikipageye-to-eye contact ako sa kanya.

"Pardon?" tanong nya ulit.

"Trip mo ba ko?Ah eh, hehe wala po Sir. Nag-iisip lang po ako ng isasagot ko kaya tumitingin ako sa dingding baka kase sa taas ko po mahanap ang sagot eh." pangangatwiran ko pa sabay ngiti sa kanya.

Nakuuu kung hindi ka lang gwapo Sir. Hahayaan kitang magsalita ng magsalita ng magsalita dyan hanggang sa maubusan ka ng laway.

Umalis na sya ay nagpatuloy sa pagmamasid sa mga students nya. Hours passed as the class delved deeper into the complexities of mathematics, each concept more challenging than the last. I struggled, stumbled, and faltered along the way, but I refused to give up. With each mistake, I learned, with each setback, I grew stronger.

Nang tumunog na ang bell, signaling the end of the class, I felt a mix of exhaustion and accomplishment wash over me. I had survived my first encounter with Professor Amil and the world of mathematics, emerging with a newfound sense of resilience and determination.

Paalis na sana ako bitbit ang aking mga gamit ng biglang lumapit sakin si Professor Amil, his expression was unreadable. "You have potential, Miss Ashlienne," he remarked, surprising me with his unexpected praise. "I see a spark in you that is waiting to ignite. Don't be afraid to embrace the challenge and push beyond your limits."

Hindi agad ako nakapagsalita. Anong potential yon?Sa Mathematics?Ulol. Hindi makapaniwalang hinabol ko sya ng tingin hanggang sa makalabas sya ng classroom. Ang lalaking hindi ko aakalaing magugustuhan ko bandang huli.

With those words echoing in my mind, I stepped out of the room, my heart lighter and my resolve stronger than before. The journey ahead would be filled with obstacles and uncertainties, but I was ready to face them head-on, leaving behind the breadcrumbs of doubt and fear, and forging a new path towards self-discovery and growth.
