Songbird

Saturday. December 22nd. Julian was ecstatic. he spent the morning practicing the song he was going to sing on the radio at 9 PM and he could hardly keep it together. this was his first time in a radio station. it took him 5 months to convince the producer to allow him to be there. he was only going to sing one song, but he didn't care. this was his dream. 

He wondered if Geralt would remember to listen. not a lot of people still had radios.
Julian went to the cafe to get his coffee. he wasn't meeting with Geralt because he was busy with his girlfriend.  the cafe was empty except for Vinnie and a few people outside. Vinnie and Julian had dated for a while, until they decided they felt better as friends.

"Ugh!" he groaned as he waited for Vinnie (Vespula) to make his coffee. "Why do the good ones always have to be taken? every time I meet a good-looking guy who likes me, he is either taken or complete assholes. like, c'mon!" he laid his head on the counter.

Vinnie laughed. "Reality's brutal man," she said, setting his coffee in front of him. "Maybe it's a sign." then she paused.

Julian raised his head. "What? What is it? I can tell when you're about to say something," he said, taking a sip of his coffee.

"Well, I've been watching you too. he seems to like you. and you defiantly look better," she said.

He raised an eyebrow. "Meaning?"

"What I mean is that you just... look better! you don't come in with a hangover every morning, you're eating more, and you don't always look so tired. I don't know if it's him, or the fact that you haven't been working, but I like seeing you this way," she said. and she had a point. Julian hadn't had any alcohol since Monday, and he was eating a lot more. but he didn't think it was Geralt. He thought it was because he hadn't been working. he always drank after a hard night, or if he just had a bad day. it helped him forget. 

"But I haven't just been watching you. I watch him too. and I've seen the way he looks at you. if you want me to be completely honest," she took a sip of Julians coffee as well. "I wouldn't be so sure that he's completely straight," she said. then she smirked and walked away, leaving Julian to ponder what she had just said.

Geralt spent the whole day helping Yen with decorations around the dorms (His and hers) and he actually enjoyed it. most of the time. it was a nice way the pass the time. he was waiting for 9 PM. that's when Julian would play on the radio. Geralt wondered what song he would play. 

Yen was wrapping presents in the bedroom with Triss, and Geralt was playing "12 Days" with Coen, Eskel, and Lambert. Coen had won, as per usual, and then Geralt got up to get some snacks. Eskel joined him. they both got a beer and a few sugar cookies when Geralt saw a look on Eskel's face.

"What?" Geralt asked.

"You seem.... different that's all," Eskel said.

"Different how?"

"I don't know. you don't seem as moody as you did in November," then he gasped. "Wait. did Yen finally ask to make out with you?!"

"No. actually, she's been really distant lately. she used to always want me to go the mall with her. it was kind of annoying. but now," he sighed.  "She never asks me."
Eskel thought for a moment. 

"Do you think that.... maybe, just maybe, she might be," he took a big breath, "Cheating on you?"

Geralt looked at Eskel with wide eyes. "Fuck off, Yen wouldn't do that...." he thought for a moment. right? he thought to himself. then he looked at the clock. 8:55. Shit! he thought, I'm gonna miss Julians song!
