Spring Break, part 2

✧・゚: *✧・゚:*✧・゚: *✧

The sun was bright on the beach in Florida. Too bright if you asked Charlotte Huntzberger, who wore oversized sunglasses and grimaced every time a seagull cawed just a little too loud.

"Morning sunshine," Matty exclaimed as she took the seat across from Charlotte at the resort's cafe. Charlotte winced and shot a death glare in her friend's direction even though she knew Matty couldn't see it behind her shades. However, Matty didn't need a glare to recognize a hung over Charlotte Huntzberger. She had seen her plenty of times over the years.

"Must you speak so loud with such a high voice in the morning," Charlotte groaned.

"My voice is not that high," Matty argued though her voice had no real bite in it while picking up the menu in front of her. Her hazel eyes scanned the contents for a moment before briefly glancing back at Charlotte. One hand propped her head up as she lazily stirred creamer into her coffee cup.

"So, you disappeared last night," Matty brought up casually- her gaze shifted back to her menu, pretending to ponder if she wanted pancakes or an omelette. But she could see Charlotte tense ever so slightly at the comment.

"Oh yeah, I just-" Charlotte's voice trailed off, obviously searching for any kind of excuse. And the one she found ended up being very poor. "Got tired. Decided to fall asleep early."

Matty nodded though a small smirk reached her lips. "I didn't realize that activity took two."

She kept her eyes locked onto the Mushroom and Swiss omelette, but she could feel Charlotte's demeanor change- the tension in her shoulders, the small opening of her lips as she probably tried to come up with a rebuttal. Finally, Matty glanced up to meet Charlotte's gaze. Her smirk widened. "Was it at least good?"

Charlotte's cheeks were so pink that she looked like she had fallen asleep on the beach without an ounce of sunscreen. Yet, she didn't dare shy away from Matty's gaze. "Incredible."

"Well, good for you," Matty chuckled before turning to the waiter who had just approached. "One London fog and two orders of the berry pancakes for both of us please."

"I'm not hungry," Charlotte grumbled.

"Something needs to soak up that alcohol," Matty said matter-of-factly. "You'll thank me later." She handed the menu to the waiter, giving him a small smile before turning back to Charlotte. She obviously was not in the mood to argue as she leaned back in her chair, her head falling back ever so slightly.

"Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought you weren't trying to fall under Finn's spell." Matty's voice was hesitant. She was treading in murky waters now. She didn't want to make Charlotte feel guilty about her decision. She was genuinely happy that the tension between Lottie and Finn had somewhat broken. But she couldn't help but remember the tears that had welled up in the blonde's eyes yesterday, and the confession that she had unintentionally let slip.
