prologue — the invisible string

HAVE YOU EVER HEARD of the red string theory? They say there's an invisible red string tied to someone's pinky finger that leads him or her to that one person who was destined to be with them, their one true love. They are linked for life.

Eun-ae glared at her best friend, Shin Yeong, who laughed out loud as she read from a book. The two were currently hanging out with each other for the summer and their other friends were busy as always. Ri-an had his busy schedule (courtesy of his mother of course), Woo-jin was probably busy sleeping with another girl as usual, He-ra was hanging out with her family on vacation and Jae-i was radio silent, so the two only had each other.

"Yah! Don't laugh!" She hit him lightly on the shoulder with her book which only made him laugh more, he was practically dying. Eun-ae rolled her eyes, getting up from her beanbag chair.

"Y-Yah," Yeong breathed out, sighing heavily. "Don't go, Eun-ae," She, however, ignored him as she walked up to her balcony making him follow after. "Don't tell you're upset with my little laugh?" He smirked.

She pouted lightly. "No," she looked up at the shining moon. "But it just makes me wonder if I have a red string and who's at the end of it?" Yeong stared at her for a moment, taking in her appearance. She looked pretty despite being in some pjs and her hair being all over the place, she still looked perfect in his eyes.

He soon looked up the moon as well, taking in its beauty and hers. "The moon is beautiful, isn't it?" She looked over at him with her big doe eyes before smiling playfully.

"I never thought you would be so sappy," she poked his arm. "What happened to my cold Shin Yeong and can I keep this one?" Yeong immediately felt annoyed by the girls antics, swatting her hand away.

"Okay, I'm going to bed now." Yeong began to walk away with Eun-ae trying to pull him back but he was of course stronger than him.

"No! Please stay!" She slipped slightly causing her to let go of Yeong before he immediately walked out the door, but came back to tell her something.

"Sweet dreams, Lily." She pouted lightly as he closed the door again. He gave her that nickname when he bought her pink lilies for her birthday and she absolutely loved them. As much as she loved that nickname, she was still mad at the fact he felt her alone.

"You... You Connard!" She cursed lightly at him in French, and he could only chuckle on the other side of the door.

The two had been by each other's sides since they were in diapers. Hwang Eun-ae was the young daughter of a famous CEO and a model while Shin Yeong was the only son of a famous businessman and doctor. The two families seemed like opposites, but they got along very well. Them together, they seemed like one big powerful family with their children being the center of it all.

Let's see how Hwang Eun-ae and Shin Yeong's relationship develops with the new transfer student running around causing trouble.
