"Are you excited for your birthday party hun?" Cecilia, Marcus' mom, asks him while they sit together on the couch in the living room, waiting for the arrival of their guests.

"Yes! I'm very excited!" Marcus shrieked in excitement, kicking his feet as he does so, making his birthday hat atop his head tilt a little.

He went all out for his birthday outfit. He wanted to dress up as the little prince from his favourite book 'The Little Prince,' so he got what he wanted. He was wearing a prince costume with a cape, minus the crown since his parents thought that would be overdoing it. And of course, he wasn't the only one dressed up as his birthday party's theme was a “costume party.”

They wait for 10 more minutes.

And 10 minutes more.

Marcus continues to wait and watches cartoons on the television to entertain himself, the gentle hum of the television playing cartoons becomes a comforting distraction for him. His eyes remain fixated on the moving images, as his imagination paints a dreamscape, a kaleidoscope of colors and stories.

Cecilia, on the other hand, reads their daily local newspaper, and answers crossword puzzles in it. Boredom softly scratches at the edges of her mind, its touch transient yet persistent, but Marcus? He forgot about everything else and put his whole mind into watching Casper, the friendly ghost.

Soo, now, they've already waited for a good 40 minutes. The decorations were already done, the food delicately arranged as the dishes shimmer under the ceiling lights of the room. Everything feels perfect, except for one thing.

"The visitors will be here any time now!..."
She speaks, and as she does so, the sound of the door knob turning sends a shiver of excitement down her spine, thinking it was finally the guests arriving until the figure fully steps inside, revealing not the expected guests, but their dad.

Bernard, Marcus' dad waves to the two and asks "Hey guys! Y'all still waitin' for them?"

"Well, we thought you were one of the guests because the door opened up, so, yeah." Cecilia responds, and Marcus was seen by the two, sadly frowning.

"Marcus, baby, don't be sad, I'm sure they'll still show up." She reassures Marcus, planting a kiss on his forehead.

"Speaking of that...Guys, you can come out now!!" Bernard beckons and ushers the people to go in, waiting outside towards the open door of their home.
