Everything here is the same-average houses, average families, even average looks. Nothing out of the ordinary ever happens and everything is neutral. All kids attend the same school until the age of 15 when they take their exam. Everyone lives A stereotypical life. A schedule is made for everyone and no one varies off of theirs. Basically my life, like everyone else's, is a never ending pattern of commonality. "Tess, over here come on we're gonna be late!" Anon says while grabbing my arm and pulling me to our work unit. Causing my hair to fly in the wind behind me. I've known Anon since diapers, and he's been my friend ever since. "Gosh I'm coming Anon. Why are you in such a rush today?" I asked him while rubbing the now sore spot on my arm. "Tess we can't be late again and you know it. My mom said that if I'm late again she's gonna cut off my link!" Another thing you should know about Treas City is that throughout our society we have something called a link. This is what enables us to stick to out schedules and give us the energy to carry on throughout the day. With a link we never have to stop for a meal or breather, we just keep going. "You say that like it'd be a bad thing An." I say using my nickname for him, knowing that he would be glaring at me. "Come on Tess keep your voice down! You know better than to talk like that in public! What if someone heard!" Anon looked around concerned. "Ah yes," I replied as we approached out work station " because the link is the best thing that happened to humankind and we should be thankful for such wonderful technology" I mimicked the many propaganda videos we had heard over the years. Letting out a short-like-laugh Anon and I put on our gloves and started working. Life continued on like it always did-Anon and I avoided being late again and now it was the biggest moment of our lives- this was the day of our Exam. This is where our lives of regularity came to an end and we could finally experience something new. The exam was a 23 grueling hour test that covered everything we have ever grown to know-from society's rules to mathematics. This test decided how you would love the rest of your life so obviously it was nerve-wracking. Anon and I waited with the other hundreds of people sitting around in the designated waiting area to get assigned a testing room. "Tess-I....uh need to-I need to tell you something......it's kinda really important." Anon stuttered looking the most nervous I had ever seen him. "Yeah Anon?" He looked like he was gonna pee himself. Was the Exam taking it's toll on him already? "I've been wanting to tell you for a while now but never know how to start. Uh- Tessa I'm-" Anon was rudely interrupted by a lady holding. A microphone at the front of the room "Hello children. How are you all feeling today?" She continued after hearing an abundance of "goods'" and "alrights'" "Excellent well when you hear your name please stand up and get in line to be brought to your Exam room-no need to be nervous I'm sure you all will do just fine!" She said with false enthusiasm as she started to call out names I zoned out until I heard something that I dreaded hearing. " Macie Dreakern, Anon Mkearn, Dam-" Anon looked at me with a sad smile and walked away, mouthing the words "good luck" to me one last time before he and his group disappeared behind the double doors.

When I got to my Exam room I knew nobody. Well, some people I knew from passing but no one personally. "This test consists of 72 parts and you all are given exactly 23 hours to complete all of them. If you don't know the answer I suggest you skip the question and come back to it later if time permits it. No questions are allowed and know that there is only one correct answer per question. Grading consists of the number of questions you get correct, so incorrect answers will not be counted against you. Understood?" The teacher concluded his speech and handed out the sealed test booklets. "Begin." He said as the big numbers on the digital clock started their countdown.
