The beast's massive form lumbered towards Apex, its body of dark slime shifting and dripping with every movement. Apex moved with precision and speed, his armored suit enhancing his agility. He dodged the beast's swipes and countered with powerful blows, the green energy from his gauntlets sending shockwaves through the air.

As Maya watched, she began to notice something peculiar. Each time Apex struck the creature, the impact caused the black tar to ripple and reform. The beast seemed almost liquid, its body never holding a solid shape for long, the only consistent thing about it being the eyes of glowing red that seemed to emerge form the depths of hell.

"That explains why the Carbon Fiber finger-trap didn't work!" Maya thought, almost vindicated.

The way the black slime dripped and pooled reminded her of something...

Apex roared as he pointed his forearm at the beast, his gauntlet was levied upward, letting a riffle to emerge from under it. It fired a lazerbeem right in the beast's check, sending the beast stumbling backward. For a brief moment, the tar parted, revealing the beast's core—a glowing, pulsating gemstone in the shape of a star that seemed to hold its form together.

"It's made of tar," Maya realized, her eyes widening. The realization hit her like a bolt of lightning. "It's not just a monster... it's some kind of entity held together by this black substance."

Maya's heart pounded as she watched Apex and the beast hurtling towards the ground. She ran to the shattered window, flames igniting around her hands. Below, she saw Apex struggling to maintain his grip on the beast, their descent rapid and chaotic.

Apex reached into the back of his suit and retrieved a laser sword that glowed brilliantly. With a swift motion, he stabbed the beast, aiming for what he hoped was a vital point. But to Maya's surprise, and the police officers' who were looking up in awe, the beast sprouted wings of tar. Its body grew frail and wobbly, yet its jaw remained deadly and menacing.

The tar wings flapped, slowing the beast's descent. It hovered above the ground, its red eyes still fixed on Apex, who hung onto its head with one hand while wielding the laser sword with the other. The monster's jaw snapped open and shut, trying to bite down on Apex, who twisted and turned to avoid its lethal teeth.

Maya knew she had to act quickly. The beast's new form was unstable, and she needed to exploit that. She focused on the tar, analyzing its composition and how it reformed. Her mind raced, piecing together a plan.

"Apex, aim for the wings!" Maya shouted, hoping her voice would carry over the chaos.

Apex glanced up at her and nodded, understanding her strategy. With a powerful thrust, he drove the laser sword into one of the tar wings. The wing sizzled and melted under the intense heat, but the beast let out a screech and swiped at Apex with a clawed limb, forcing him to pull back.

"I have to help him!" Maya said under a sigh of relief. She thought back to how her light jump had catapulted her upwards several feet.

"Super strength and agility..." she thought, shaking like a leaf as she took a step back. "...it's now or never-AHHHHHHAHAHAHAHA!!!!"

Maya roared as she ran straight out the window, her fiery determination propelling her forward. As she leaped into the void, she felt a surge of energy course through her body. The wind whipped around her as she descended, aiming directly for the beast.

The monster's head snapped around, its red eyes locking onto Maya. It reared back, ready to strike, but Maya was faster. She landed on the beast's back with a force that sent a shockwave through its tar-like body. The impact caused the beast to stagger, giving Apex a moment to recover.
